… or a chopped G17. I’m interested in one of these. I found a reputable Gunsmith here in the DFW area that does a “chop” job on the G17 allowing it to use G19 mags. I know this has probably been discussed before, but with the current plethora of aftermarket slides available now… what’s the best way to go about making one of these? I’m tempted to just pick up a Gen 5, MOS, 17 and send it to this fella. If you have a Glock like this I’d love to see a pic.

The new Glock 45 and Glock 47 all use the Glock 19 recoil spring assembly and barrel lug geometry for modularity. Putting the 47 slide on the 19 frame will achieve what you want. Unless you specifically want or need the full Glock 17 recoil spring assembly length.

But I understand it might not be worth it to you to buying two whole new Glocks just to mix and match. However, if Glock ever releases it, the 49 will be the name of the Glock with the 47 slide on the 19 frame from the factory.

^ I’ve seen the new 47 combo you’re referring to. That would be an easy route, but I don’t want to buy two guns as you mentioned. Thanks

Mine is a Springfield, not a Glock, but when I assembled the MixMasters, I kept MixMaster A and sold MixMaster B, recouping a lot of the cost. Surely somebody would want a short barrel long butt combination.

Because the Glock 47 is still fairly new, it's probably going to be difficult finding a Glock 47 slide so you're probably going to have to do one of the of the following:

1). As you mentioned, buy a Glock 17 and get it chopped....depending on your LGS, it might be hard to get a G17 MOS since Glock is moving to Glock 47.

2). Do you already have a Gen 5 Glock 19? If so, buy the Glock 47, keep the slide, sell the lower.

3). Buy the Glock 19 & Glock 47, keep Glock 47 slide, sell Glock 47 lower

Money saving tip for buying Glocks:
If you're not a member of GSSF, join it, use the membership coupon to save some money on buying either Glock 19 & Glock 47. *buy the longer-term membership to get the coupon earlier.

Thanks for the replies.. much appreciated. Fortunately, I *am* the local gun shop Smile It’ll probably depend on what I can find I guess. I really like the work that TXT Custom in Plano does so I may just pick up a G17.

I choppped a Gen 3 G17 frame and put a Suarez 17 slide on it. The 19 mags fit fine and it functions perfectly. Shadow Systems makes this exact gun if you want to go that way. It’s a good shooter also. ( a buddy has one)

I love mine. I have a 17 frame that was chopped but was waiting to find a frame when the SS MR920L came out. Figured, why reinvent the wheel. I love SS and their guns.

I’m already a SS fan, I’ve got a couple of their guns now. They make great stuff, thanks for reminding me and snapping me to my senses. Smile

Hearing a lot of folks praising Shadow Systems' Glock clones, and as luck would have it, I found a LGS that has a few in stock. The gun really feels great, much better than Glock, BUT, their highly touted trigger was totally underwhelming. I left the store scratching my head.

I till hold out hope that one day, Glock will offer up a G19/26, or , using the convention of this thread, a G26L.

Why not just trim a G19 to take G26 magazines, you say? Well, take a look at the backstrap of a G26 and you'll see that there is a hump to keep the pistol from pointing low, and you're not getting that if you simply cut the grip of a G19.

I'm curious but who is the gunsmith? I'm in DFW as well and wondering.

Boresight Solutions actually has one in stock. A Glock 19 frame with a 47 slide assembly. Pricey because it has their grip frame work and some other mods done to it. Worth a look at if you are interested.

I really like the looks of the SS guns and they seem to address the biggest short coming,at least for me, with Glock pistols and their small tang/beaver tail.

Dusty did a great job on that conversion.
