I have a FedEx from a major gun company to ship my item in for repairs. I came accross some information that even with a pre-paid company's label the person shipping must be an FFL. Any truth to this issue? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Democracy is 2 Wolves & a Lamb debating the lunch menu. The last time I did something like that about 2-3 years back, that was not the case - I took the labeled item to FedEx (box already sealed, etc.) and had no issues. FedEx even delivered the item back directly to my door from the gunsmith. Granted, things could have changed in the intervening months. While it's true that FedEx's new policy that came out late last year no longer allows non-FFL parties to ship firearms through them, apparently shipping your gun in for service/repair using the manufacturer's generated label is gtg, still. Q

I'm not a lawyer, I don't play one on TV, so the legal burden is on you... but... not in my experience. If you do some basic searching there is a good amount of info from the ATF covering your question. I've had interactions with two different major gun companies and in both cases they provided the label, I dropped it off at UPS / FedEd, and they shipped it directly back to me. No FFL in either case as the work was related to "repair" and sent in by the "owner" (me). I've had interactions where I've bought a used firearm, the owner shipped it direct to my local FFL along with their DL, and then my local FFL transferred it to me.

Spot on. I had a pistol go back to Sig in just the last 30 days and they sent me a FedEx label.

A couple months ago I shipped a Dan Wesson via Fedex without any issues, the important part is you have yo do it at a Fedex hub.

So this mean that shipping a gun for gunsmithing work to someone like GGI or Cajun Gun Works now requires using an outgoing FFL to get it there? And to send it back to? How rudely inconvenient, FedEx. (well, maybe not quite so for me since I actually work for a FFL dealer) -MG

Per the firearm company instructions, I took my package gun to the FedEx hub this morning and was promptly refused service. I was instructed to call the 800 and request a pick-up. I called and explained the situation to the representative. He stated "no problem." My package was picked-up and is now in transit. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Democracy is 2 Wolves & a Lamb debating the lunch menu. I think he got it confused with the ammo regulations. Ammo must be picked up, and firearms are supposed to be dropped off.

My experience with FedEx and firearm shipping was smooth until FedEx left the shotgun on my porch without even trying to ring my doorbell. "Among a people generally corrupt, liberty cannot long exist." Edmund Burke

Yes! FedEx/Kinkos, or inside the MailBoxes Etc, or similar franchises won't take it. Any firearm you ship must go to an FFL. If the shipper's rep asks you what it IS, then follows-up with FOR WHAT REASON: IT IS FOR warranty repair, or service & repair. Period. End-of-story. 'Nuff said......

According to https://www.fedex.com/en-us/sh...o-ship-firearms.html "Nonlicensees are prohibited from shipping firearms with FedEx"

I shipped a 686 back to S&W for a canted barrel fix. This was about 3 years ago. They e-mailed me a Fedex label and told me to ship it in the original blue plastic case. I dropped it off at a nearby Fedex Office location and they shipped it without asking any questions. Smith fixed the pistol and Fedexed it back to me with out a single issue. It was about 8 weeks door to door. +

That was not my experience. I've had three handguns go back to SIG over the last ten years. Each time, they sent me a label and the driver picked up the package from my house.
