I'm shooting a match later in the month that one of the stages is inside of a cave. All low light.

Dehughes. I was issued a P229 for twelve years and I really like it but the 226 fits my hand like a glove. The 226 is my go to Sig.

I'm going to have to try grabbing some video of my 229, folded slide 226, and Allround to compare them. I don't think I've ever shot them all side-by-side to compare.

And just to be completely clear. I am talking P226/9 to P229/9. In the other calibers, I think the P226 wins. It was my experience with the P229 in .40 that is likely why I never gave the P229/9 a fair shake.

Carried a 229 in .357 sig for about 3 years. When we initially got the guns, all the Instructors did a SIG sponsored , Semi Auto Pistol Transition Course. I recall doing about 800 rds in a few days. ZERO malfunctions.

The FI's then had to transition the Troops into the new guns....More range time and again, ZM. (Zero Malfunctions)

We shot four times a year, with two of the range days being a timed and scored qualification, the other two longer days as "range days". On the range days we ran some fun courses on steel, did a lot of basic type drills, then moved on to more advanced stuff. So a minimum of 250 rds to close to 400 rds being fired.

I liked to demonstrate things to the shooters so my personal 229 got probably as many rds as the rest of them did. Plus between groups,the FI's would screw around shooting at shotshell casings on the 50 yd berm, etc.

During three years of thousands of rds annually...again...Zero Malfunctions.

Then we went to the 229R rail guns. Same scenario for the next 4 years; ZM on that 229R.

During all my time on the Range with dozens of Troopers and dozens of guns, through thousands of rds fired. I can NOT recall ANY FTF/FTE. Even with cycling in brand new guns, TWICE.

The Armorers did annual tear downs, cleaning and lubing and replaced recoil springs every other year. Individual Troopers were responsible for their own guns cleanliness with cleaning gear readily available and time allotted for cleanings. So we DID do good maintenance.

I know the .357's bottleneck case can do nothing BUT feed into the chamber. But still...talk about a stellar record of reliability.



Thats my last 229 the rail gun. Finish was pretty bad on it so after it was gifted to me by the guys, when I retired. I had it cerrokoted.

Put in an SRT kit and a Grayguns P-SAIT and you'll be set up like Belinda's P228 at Practical Fundamentals in Reading, PA earlier this year.

Passed 2000 rounds today and round count stands at 2050. Taught a rare, small defensive pistol class today. Per my usual inclination, students spent the majority of their day learning to drive the gun efficiently, and in the afternoon we did some cool guy stuff such as shooting on the move, barricades, and malfunction clearing. My P229 performed without issue, and chugged right along. One of the students in class, forum member zymurgst shot his high round count P229. Gun was around a 2010 manufacture E2 gun He eventually rebarreled the gun with a threaded, and it keeps chugging right along. #stepbrothers

Yeah. that's what I hate about my 1995 P229 .40 DA/SA...BORING. Over 47,000 rounds, changed all the springs at about 30,000. Hits exactly where I aim. Never malfunctions.

I carried the 229 on duty as well for about 12 years before the Department switched to the 320, had great luck with a Milt Sparks Summer Special II with a thumb break for concealed carry...
