bczrxI appreciate all of the responses!
a bit more info- California is looking like it will also pass what amounts to a Glock [and other striker fired?] handgun ban.
The specific law is designed to ban importation/sale of striker fired handguns that allow a 'glock switch' type device to be installed and convert the firearm to an automatically firing handgun [as opposed to an automatic- which originally refers to how it loads the next round, and which so much of the public doesn't know or care about.]
So I am considering whether I should add something to my collection before I can't do it any more.
My LGS has a Glock 21Sf [and a Glock 21C- which I wish were an SF-C] on the shelf for sale. They also have a used XD 45 Tactical in the consignment section.
So I am debating if I should grab one before I can't any longer.
However, from everything you have all said I don't think I'll buy either.
I wanted honest opinions of only these two compared and received good feedback.
However, I DO own a Glock G30SF already, and I have fired it about 3 times in 4 years. I don't think I'd fire the G21SF any more often and they carry the same number of rounds [-California here], so there is no significant reason to buy ANOTHER Glock .45.
As for the HK USP 45 suggestion- I had one [compact version] but sold it as I was never able to be as accurate with it as I wanted AND I couldn't get the trigger to be as crisp/sharp as I'd like. It felt too mushy, even after trigger parts upgrades.
Now they are not on our roster of approved handguns. In fact, the roster has HK P2000 series only, and only in .40 and 9mm.
as per the Ruger P97 comments- I am always surprised how well this handgun works, and how accurate it is in my hands.
I don't like the looks of it [and wish it had a rail option- but, no, I can't get the SR45 either] but it simply works.
around 2011 I did an accuracy/precision contest between my .45s and wound up selling the Sig P220Combat, HK USP 45, M&P 45 and Springfield Armory Stainless Target 1911 loaded, as the group sizes were about twice the sizes for my P97, RIA 'tactical' 1911 [not tactical by today's standards] and customized Sistema 1911a1.
