Osight just announced their latest handgun optic model, a red dot optic designed for direct mounting to the pre-Gen 6 Glock MOS footprint.

Previously the only option for a direct mount MOS optic was the Holosun SCS MOS, which is a great optic, but an open emitter.

Whereas Osight's main selling point is this optic has an enclosed emitter. Like the SCS MOS, it's designed to cowitness with factory height sights. But the SCS MOS is green and solar rechargeable, while the Osight is red and battery powered.

(And it's noticeably uglier and bulkier than the SCS MOS...)

The Osight SE MOS is set for release on August 24th, and currently available for preorder through Glockstore.

That Osight looks really really bad.

The SCS looks like it belongs on the gun.

I grabbed an O Sight C when it came out, I do not like how large it is. lol

I have two SCS’s and love them. Not sure I am ready to trust Olight for sights. Not saying they are crap just took me long enough to trust Holosun not ready to devote the effort to Olight and that sight is quite … obtrusive.

Probably works great. Good to see more people using the footprint.

I just watched Lenny’s YouTube video on the GlockStore release, and it does have some unique features.

At $250 it doesn’t break the bank. I put an Osight SE on my wife’s Shield-X back in March and it gets carried in her purse holster everyday. She’s definitely not gentle with gun. We do range trips most weekends the weather is good and Club Matches monthly and the SE still running fine and holding zero.

I get why they made it that way. But if just looks like it's reversed compared to how we are used to seeing dots on handguns.

Said they are holding up just fine. Was good enough for me. I think Osight is the new Holosun / Vortex. When these guys hit the market no one would touch them really. Was Eotech or Aimpoint. Not Vortex is on par with and Holosun is right there.

Yep. The emitter appears to be in the top, not the base like basically every other handgun optic.

It's effectively "upside down", which contributes to the fugliness.

As does the decision to bias it to the rear of the mount. (Were they attempting to get it as close to the shooter's eye as possible, to fudge the perception of the window size?)

And the overall design choices, with the sharp angles versus the clean lines of the SCS.

It's certainly no uglier than Aimpoint's COA.

Probably also fit more holsters that aren't cut for optics. being further back. I can see how it would give you a slightly larger FOV as well.

That's a good point. I hadn't considered that.

That's one of the annoying parts of switching over to handgun optics... Having to buy new holsters.

(Though some kydex holsters can just be modified with a Dremel.)

Another benefit of having it biased further rearward is less fouling building up on the window. My SRO gets filthy in short order, especially shooing the cheap Magtech stuff. I was going through a lot of that stuff last year. I’d have to wipe off crud halfway through a match on occasion, there would be just enough shit building up on the front of the optic that it was a distraction. Osight is popular with the USPSA crowd because that’s who they marketed heavily to first, and the Osight guys shoot a lot of matches around here in a very active USPSA community, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it got suggested to them from those guys to situate an optic further back to help keep front lenses cleaner longer. I’ve also seen videos of occasional stoppages where empty brass gets bounced off an SRO back into the open slide and stops the gun from completing cycling. Less an issue probably the further back you get the optic.

Everything we’re not used to seeing looks ugly until we’re used to seeing it. I would happily take a bigger optic window with a lower deck height due to the top-mounted emitter further back on the gun to clear more holsters over one that matches the guns lines better. The COA looks like ass from the side, but it’s one of the best handgun optics I’ve used. Large window, very clear glass, and I wouldn’t trade it for a gun with an SCS just because it looks better. It’s a tool. I have guns that aren’t utilitarian and ugly, but they don’t get carried.

Well, I’ll let you guys know what I think of it when it arrives. Just got shipping notification from the Glock store that is shipping out today.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, the email I got with the tracker gave the right part number of description of the MOS unit, let’s see what shows up

And speaking of direct mount SCS for the MOS footprint, I saw a IG post at a trade show in the Holosun booth that they are coming out with a new enclosed SCS which blends many of the features of the EPS series. Looked interesting

Cool. I like everything about my Holosun SCS MOS, other than its open emitter. Not a total deal breaker, but I'd prefer enclosed.

Similarly, I like their SCS Carry, which is an enclosed emitter SCS for the RMSc footprint. (Basically a solar version of their EPS Carry.)

Sounds like this new SCS MOS version may be a blend of the two, in which case I'll likely grab one to replace my existing open SCS MOS.
