100 yard range fun with the p220 Match
Picked up this beauty from a forum member here

Decided to stretch its legs a little. You can see in the video below, my local range has 6-7 silhouette steel targets at 50 yards. There is a berm 5 yards behind them, then on top of that berm is another set of steel targets at 100yards. The one in the video is a 12” plate. Federal 230g ammo.

Couple hits

Nice. How high did you hold over?

Crazy, you can actually see the bullet going downrange.

We went out to my buddy's place a couple of weeks ago and shot steel with rifle out to 500 yards. When we were done, we tried hitting some plates with pistol. 150 yards was tough...I sent a lot of rounds with just a couple of hits. When we moved up to 100 I went 4/5 a couple of times in a row with my P320 and P229.

There wasn't much holdover at 100 with the 9mm...I pretty much just held at the top of the target. I imagine it would be a bit more pronounced with a .45.

The bullet drop for the Federal American Eagle is 16.1” at 100 yards. Which sounds like a good bit, but the target is so small in your sight picture at 100 yards, it’s really just a bit of a high hold.

I didn’t at first notice you could see the rounds in the video, pretty cool though…

If you're holding over, you're doing it wrong.
You NEVER hide the target from the front sight. Ever.

You creep the rear sight down. And note where the blade rests across the front sight.
I have a white mark on my 1911 front sight post.
It's a cross. One splitting it side to side and one for the blade to rest. The tiny vertical white line is for the middle of the target .

Nice shooting!
I've shot some .500 S&W reloads using a 440 grain hard cast/gas check projectile and Trail Boss powder.
The published load data said it was going maybe 750 feet per second.
That 1/2" diameter gas check could be easily seen with the sun behind you every single shot.

I got involved in handgun metallic silhouette early on, once it made its way to the east coast. In one of the early MA matches (maybe the first) the winner was shooting an AMU accurized 1911 with King gun sights. There were three distinct occurrences when shooting at the 200M rams. You heard the gun go off (and yes, you could see the rainbow arc of the bullet), after a discernible pause you heard the clang of the bullet hitting the target and finally the target slowly topples over. I remember the shooter cranking the elevation screw of that rear sight - not just clicks, but full turns.

Adios,
