Thanks Benner! I think the best way to describe it is the Gen5 is the G19 that Gen2 fans have been waiting a long time for. Smile

Just to add a few more details:

The sights on my pistol appear to not be historically typical Glock sizes. The front sight is noticeably taller than a typical Glock front sight just by looking at it. The rear is marked 6.1mm (.1695 notch width) and the front seems to measure around .195 inch / 4.95mm (.1435 width at the top, .15 at the bottom) so this seems to be the reason for the groups being about 1.5 inches low unless you really get that dot up on that bullseye. Easily fixable though.

I also measured the trigger at between 5.25 and 5.5 lbs. and it has a noticeable and short reset.

Picked up a Gen 5 G19 with night sights today. Haven't shot it yet, but my first impression is that they nailed it with this model.

This is the first new Glock I've bought in forever, and the first time in 10 years or so that I've strayed from the Gen 2 models.

The new finish seems pretty nice, the frame texture is perfect.

Only thing I'd like to change: I'm so used to a slightly heavier trigger pull and aggressive reset resulting from the "-" connector and NY-1 trigger spring... Would like to recreate that at some point. The pull and break on my Gen 5 gun is decent, though nothing remarkable. It's a Glock. More mush than the solid "wall" that I've got on my Gen 2s, it seems.

The "solid wall" is one of the things most people are glad Glock did away with. The wall leads to all kinds of marksmanship errors for so-so shooters, and really experienced shooters a like. It has been a thing that instructors and shooters have had to work around forever. Most combat it with the Ghost Rocket stuff, or the connector of your choice. The newer guns allow the shooter to prep harder on the trigger in a smooth fashion, without hitting the speed bump of a wall, and then having to jerk through it to make the gun fire, because its a wall. I'm a little faster with the Gen5, but at that speed I can tell that I am way more accurate because I don't put any input into the pistol to make the trigger break when the sights reset.

Trigger control is taught in most places from the negative. "Don't slap the trigger", etc. When in fact, it denies the fact that at a certain speed everyone slaps the trigger. If you tell people "don't slap the trigger" as the mantra by which you teach trigger control, it does zero to prepare people to the fact that at certain speeds, everyone slaps the trigger. Me included. It is how much you interrupt that follow through at that speed because of gross trigger movement that matters.

That is the main reason I have always installed Apex triggers in my M&Ps, and Ghost Rocket stuff in my Glocks. I didn't want the trigger pull to drop, but I wanted the wall gone.

JlJones nailed it.

I remember an old school (used to compete with revolvers in LE Marksmanship events) instructor at the academy breaking down the Glock trigger PRESS for me. "When you get to that wall, think a 'lil more pressure, a 'lil more pressure". Being a novice shooter, during our range days I religiously took notes of everything he said like it was Gospel. Glad I did.

After putting about 175 rounds though my 19 today, I'm very pleased with the gun. No issues across 4 different kinds of 124, 115, and 124 +P ammo.

To clarify my minor gripe above regarding the trigger, what I'd really like is to increase the resistance on the take-up, as well as add some oomph to the reset force. I'm good with the lack of "wall." I'm not messing with it just yet, but I'd imagine a heavier FP spring might help... Anyways... For now I just plan on shooting it as is.

Did you attempt and able to get 3" group at 50 yards as Glock claimed? Thanks.

That's out of a random rest no doubt. Best group we got off a bag was about7 inches.

Three things:

1) I have heard the new barrels were optimized for 147 grain ammo (think G2).

2) the mag well flare on the 19 seems to avoid pinching when reloading a 19 mag, as sometimes happened to me with previous Gen Glocks.

3) there is a lip inside the mag well that impedes fast reloads, but a little hand work with 400 sandpaper makes for a lovely funnel.

How does the Gen 5 stack up against the M P 2.0. ?

I like the 2.0 a little better. But, it is personal preference. The 2.0 is a little faster in my hands.

The thing I have noticed with the Gen5 is that it rides higher in my hand than the Gen4 does. I've never had slide bite with the previous generations. And after a high round count day, I got this. I think that is contributing to the faster follow up shots that I'm getting with the Gen5 over the four.
