I like my 365 but I love my 239! Jim

Age Quod Agis |
Well, I guess at this point, my well loved 938 counts. It's complicated, has a bunch of hard edges, has a safety, and maxes out at 7+1. A 365 or Hellcat is, on paper, a better choice. On the other hand, this little sucker is reliable, I shoot it very well for a tiny pistol, and I like it and trust it. So I give up a few rounds of capacity, for a platform I know and trust. "I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation." Guns are VERY MUCH like cars. Car guys fall into two main camps, magazine racers and real world folks. Just because the magazine says it’s the bestest ever doesn’t mean in the real world it is enjoyable or best for YOU. Guns are very much the same thing and always have been. On paper the SIG 365, like was said above, is phenomenal and it really is a paradigm shift. That said, and this is coming from a guy with not huge hands, it’s actually too small for ME. I prefer other options. Another thing for ME is that pocket autos rarely work for me because they tend to look like a gun in a pocket and their hard lines tend to not draw as easily. For ME in a pocket gun I find a small revolver both doesn’t print like a gun and draws far more organically yet something like the above P365 is far and away better. So I guess there is another gun to add. In 2021 I would argue a J-Frame esque gun is HORRIBLE on paper yet in a the real world is still a solid choice. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

Probably every SIG I own. They aren't striker fired, old design, high bore axis, cost too much, and weigh an ungodly amount. Yet here I am in 2021 carrying an ancient, fat, expensive hard to shoot gun. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Glock 42 for me. The common objection to it that I often see is that it’s too big for a .380, too big for pocket carry for many (myself included), and it is about the size a 9mm micro ought to be. Folks often point to the Ruger LCP as what the Glock 42 ought to be, dimension-wise. I understand these complaints, and don’t offer a counter-argument. However, for me, it’s a fine little pistol. It is so easy to shoot well, and it is fun to boot. In fact, it’s one of those guns that always elicits a bemused grin from skeptical shooters I hand it to at the range, once they run a magazine through it. It shoots better than it seems like it has any right to. I have pretty large hands, and for me, it’s in this magical sweet spot where it fits my hand like a bigger gun might, while still being comparatively tiny. For hot weather summer carry, or winter coat pocket carry to have something easier to get to, I think it’s great. There’s probably better options out there, and I certainly haven’t tried them all, but neither do I feel compelled to look around for one. The Glock 42 checks the “micro auto” box quite nicely for me. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

Excellent post, thank you. Using the 3 rounds or less, at 3 yards or less and over in 3 seconds or less self defense scenario, my 8+1 P239 (.357Sig) leaves me with no worries. As does my 3" GP100.

The Beretta Nano. Long double action trigger with a corresponding reset. It's large for a sub-compact but it only holds six rounds. That being said, it's absolutely reliable, accurate and carries very well. I carry it daily. __________________________

I’d much rather have 8 rounds of 357sig than 8 rounds of 380 if I’m going single stack. I do like my 229 357

a Langdon Beretta 92 Centurion with an RMR. Compared to modern service pistols (plastic), the 92 is considerably heavier, more complicated to operate, has more parts, and is much more expensive. But, it settles very comfortably in an appendix holster, loads to 18+1, and when it comes out, from first shot to last, good hits come with less effort than any pistol I can think of, other than a 1911. Its also very reliable with its open slide design. Its a good example of an older design that appears to be surpassed on paper, but continues to win in real life.

Any generation of G26. The 19 holds more rounds, 43/x carries better, 365 and Hellcat have same or better capacity in an even smaller package. Zero f’s given. Old 26 just keeps putting in work.

Compared to today's competition the P239 is a large and heavy pistol with a small capacity for its size but there's just something special about it. Same with the Beretta 92. I love it despite its short comings. No one's life, liberty or property is safe while the legislature is in session.- Mark Twain

Man...now it's Beretta 92s, J-Frames, and the Glock 26 making the list, too. You guys are basically describing the inside of my safe, lol. Apparently my tastes are obsolete...

Welcome new member, coffee and donuts in the back, we’ll get started in a bit. I mean sweet jeebus one of my go to guns is a hammer fired, double single action, .40 caliber. I might as well tell folks I wear a helmet for my own safety and that in my day they delivered ice blocks to the house by the way some folks look at me. Truth be told I haven’t hit the half century mark, I like what I like. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

Exactly! Use what works for you and watch (and sometimes snicker at) others who chase the trends and the fads. Classic, never really goes out of fashion. Never owned a 9mm and still have no need or desire to. Besides, .357Sig ammo is easier to get when you’re not competing against seemingly ‘everyone’ else.

These days...pretty much any gun chambered in .40S&W. We've heard that modern defensive ammo makes 9mm the virtual equal to .40 when it comes to effectiveness per round, and then the old timer takes the lead given its greater firepower because of the added capacity that's afforded for a given gun size. With that in mind my EDC G23 should've been retired ages ago for a G19. Yet I find my compact .40 much more satisfying to shoot than the 9mm version. With it I feel like I've actually accomplished something while I shoot it just as well as the G19. Bigger, meaner bang for the buck, I suppose...and not a gun that has any reason rooted in reality to be put out to pasture, even if the nerve endings in my strong hand elbow sometimes says otherwise. I've finally shot a M&P40C 2.0 for the first time and honestly it's just as satisfying as my G23. Now to convince ammo makers that they should get back to loading .40S&W munitions again... -MG
