I finally got hold of one of these S&W 3914DAOs made for the NYPD. I normally don't care for DAO pistols, preferring TDA models. But this one struck me differently. I owned 3953s amd a 3954. All the reviews called the DAO triggers "revolver like". Well, as an old revolver guy, if my revolvers DA trigger was like that, I would take it to my gunsmith for repairs. The trigger pull on this gun is great. It is very close to the DA pull on my TDA S&W Performance Center pistols. Smooth, with a slight wall and a crisp break. Makes for very accurate shooting gun. After wringing it out with 210 various rounds, to test for funcion, with zero malfunctions, I find it good to go. Nice pistol. Too bad they stopped making them to peddal the plastic stuff. Those have a 12 lb trigger and second strike capability don't they? And the regular 3953 has a lighter trigger and no second strike capability if I remember correctly. You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred! - Henry Cabot Henhouse III, aka "SuperChicken"

While S&W called those third generation models DAO they do not have repeat strike capability. The hammer is partially cocked by slide action..

The trigger pull is around 9 pounds. But it is a short, smooth pull. Unlike the other DAO models I have shot. The NYPD 3914DAO DOES have 2nd strike capability unlike all the other DAO models. Not that I would ever use it. And unlike the others the hammer is NOT pre cocked. It is the same as every other 3rd gen I own or have been issued. My take is they simply ground off the SA notch off the hammer. Very nice 9mm single stack carry gun. Thanks all for the comments! Regards 18DAI 7+1 Rounds of hope and change
