I have a rather naïve question, but are there three different slide lengths for the SIG 320? AND are the original frames the same size as their X series counterparts? Thank you!!

The P320 comes in three slide lengths (and barrel lengths, accordingly); a full size, a "compact," and a "subcompact."

You'll see references to "carry" and "compact." The slide and barrel is the same length on both; the difference is the length of the grip; the "compact" takes a 15 round magazine, and the "carry" takes a 17 round magazine (the FS, or Full Size, also takes a 17 round magazine). Complicating that is Sig's release of the XCompact, which is actually a subcompact slide with a compact frame (15 round magazine). The original sub compact and subcompact frame used 12 round magazines. The round count above references 9mm pistols, only.

Because of the modularity of the design, various grip modules can be mated with the "FCU" (fire control unit), or trigger/sear/rails mechanism. You can make a "carry" into a "compact simplyl by swapping the grip.

The x-grip modules follow the same conventions as the standard grip, until getting to the x-compact, mentioned above (subcompact slide on a compact grip).

You can also put a compact or carry grip on a full size slide. Whereas the full size grip dust cover comes all the way to the end of the slide, if a compact or carry grip is used, some of the slide dust cover shows; either way is fully functional, and it's largely a matter of preference.

The TFX grip module is a full size grip module, and is polymer infused with tungsten, to add weight. It's primarily intended for competition, and makes the P320 feel like a steel pistol, so far as weight.

sns3guppy thanks for the information, very helpful. So I do own the FS & SC slides. My assumption is there's a compact slide I'm missing. Thanks for clarifying the X compact mystery for me. That one had me scratching my head, it's size configuration wasn't making mu

Welcome to the forum, you will find a wealth of knowledge and advice here.

I have four P320 pistols, all FS, so can't help you regarding the slide length question.

For future posts please be more specific to your thread title, regarding the topic or question. Refer to other posts for examples.

Thanks, and regards.

Sig's nomenclature can make it confusing, and the modularity can throw it all out of wack, because one pistol can look like another simply by switching a grip module or other component.

Assuming a factory barrel that doesn't extend beyond the slide (eg, threaded barrel, etc), the FS has a barrel length of 4.7 inches. The family includes the M17, VTAC, XVTAC, XFULL, and so forth. Sight radius is 6.6 inches.

The P320 X5 Legion has a 5" barrel, though it appears to be the same length as the standard FS full size. Sight radius is 6.8 iches.

The Compact, Carry, X-carry, M18, etc, all use a barrel length of 3.9 inches. The sight radius is 5.8 inches.

The Subcompact and X-compact use a barrel length of 3.6 inches. Sight radius is 5.5 inches.

RXP designation means it has an optic on top, but the lengths are the same.

I have the XCompact, I bought mine barely used if any, and it came with three 15 round mags and two 21 round mags. I really prefer the flat trigger and the XCompact frame. A great EDC.

I also have the P365, and I installed a Flat trigger and periodically run the XL frame. I carry both AIWB.
