I’m picking up a Springfield 1911 Operator in .45 ACP. It has decent looking VZ grips and I have another pair available.

However, I’ll need a short flat faced trigger and a mag well of some sort, possibly a slightly longer mag release button. I’m thinking the Stan Chen Shooter Installed mag well.

These are purely preference, though it will need some skate board tape on the front strap.

Thoughts?

Edit: looking at springs weights as well, it seems a 16lb recoil and 19lb mainspring is common. I find, for me, most guns are over sprung and I like to tinker.

I've been shopping parts from SVI as of late.

Kinda spendy, but I'm happy with them.

I have a couple Stan Chen magwells, very nice stuff. I'm also happy with the Ed Brown Hardcore magwell. I use Brownells primarily for my 1911 parts, they have a variety of extended mag releases.

I did my own front strap checkering on one gun (my only 1911 without front strap checkering) using the jig and files from Brownells. It took a lot of patience and is not as nice as machine-done checkering, but it was a good experience and it's just a range toy .38super anyway.

I am not opposed to trying my own checking or stippling.

The Jig is fairly expensive. If you decide to try checkering it yourself, shoot me an email (in my profile). I can send you pictures of how mine turned out, to help you decide if you want to go that route. I don't regret doing it, but skateboard tape is a valid option.

Try www.harrisoncustom.com for 1911 parts. I've never had experience with them myself but have heard they are are good source. Might be a little pricey.

I Like

Smith and Alexander magwell
EGW grip safety (if the tang radius is .250) or a wilson bulletproof for a compound radius tang
Harrison retro commander hammer and Harrison sear
Wilson low profile grip safety (1 sided), mainly because the paddles arent too big
Trijicon HD sights
Wilson lightweight trigger
several quality disconnectors are pretty good
The extractor is most important part in the gun, colt, Wilson's bulletproof, ed brown's and the thick EGW unit are all pretty good, but all need modification and careful tensioning

Thanks! A friend is letting me test a Harrison trigger.

I like the stock sights well enough, though I prefer fiber optic vs Tritium.

16# recoil spring is on the heavy side for non +p.

My Kimber has a 16/20 combo and I've been meaning to switch to a standard 12# recoil spring for a long time. It ejects WWB reliably, but only just.

Works great with hot stuff...

I’ve used Harrison Custom on a few builds and am very pleased.

I really like the Ed Brown one piece mag well. The taper at the bottom of the MSH is great. I have one on my Springfield Garrison.
