Anyone here shot a Wilson Combat X9 and a 2011? Login/Join

So the deal is I'm looking for a Commander-ish sized 2011 or similar. I had a Staccato DVC-P (the precursor to the XC) a couple of years ago while I liked the gun, it didn't feel $4,500 worth of gun and I think the main culprit was the Staccato Gen2 grip that was large and not very grippy.

I've got my 9mm 5" gun covered with my P226 X-5, but I don't have a midsize gun. I'd also prefer a gun with a metal grip. The simple answer would be to get a Nighthawk 2011 model, but they start at about $4,500 and some don't have a Trijicon plate with the gun (it also won't take an SRO with the front facing irons).

I've thought about a Staccato P with their Tac Texture, but that also runs me into the Wilson Combat X series of guns like the EDC X9, exterior Double Stack, and their Solid Frame lines. The price seems to be right, and I've been in love with 6" Classic .45 that it's almost old enough to drink and even better than when I bought it after some upgrades.

However, I can't really find many (or any) videos comparing the shootability or fun factor between a 2011 and a Wilson. How do they compare or contrast?

I wouldn't be too upset getting a Springfield Prodigy and sending to Hayes Custom for their Reliability and trigger job IF the damn optic plates were in stock. Also good luck trying to find a Bul Armory that's optic ready in stock unless you're looking for a Glock clone.

If I have to wait, the Masterpiece Arms DS9 looks excellent for the money, but I'd prefer to not. I don't really care about how one gun carries because I'll likely never carry either one.

Is there anyone on here with experience between the two platforms that can help me out?

If you still have the 2011, swapping the grip frame may be a better option.

They are available in polymer, aluminum, and stainless.

I don't. I sold it during the height of COVID for no loss. Besides, adding a metal grip to a Staccato would violate their warranty.

Metal 4" double stack 9mm? You're talking about 1911/2011 pattern guns, but with the SIG, you don't seem wedded to that platform.

What about a CZ P01. If you want it slicked up, send to Cajun Gun Works to have them work it over. Even with that it would be eons cheaper than a Wilson, if you care.

Only interested in 1911 style SAO. I've thought about leading up a Tactical Sport Orange, but by then time I get the frame mounted optic, in into 2011 money anyway.

Doesn't make a 2011 or a Double Stack 1911.

Still looking for someone that's shot an EDC x9 or eXperior Double Stack.

I have shot a X9 and it was extremely smooth and had a nice trigger. F&F was typical Wilson Combat just about perfect. With that said, I prefer 1911’s. Between those options, I would go with Wilson Combat. Their products are top shelf and the warranty and CS is second to none as well.

Been fairly happy with my EDC X9, though it was considerably more spendy than the Staccato P that I was eyeing about the same time.

I've shot earlier 2011s from the STI era of the company and generally liked them, but the poly bottoms didn't sit very well at the time with my financial sensibilities given the typical price of admission. Haven't shot a Staccato but I imagine it's not all that different from the earlier STI guns. I was fairly tempted by the P, but decided to suck it up money-wise and instead sprung for the Wilson. Haven't looked back, though I'm thinking it might look a bit spiffier and a little less Dark Side with Wilson's red cherry starburst grips. Maybe after they get them back in stock again...

My EDC X9, propped up on a Glock flag of course (well at least I had the decency to put the banner backwards): Razz

I know it's not a 1911 or 2011 platform, Sig 229 Legion SAO. Compact 9mm and it could complement your X5.
