Calling all P220 experts - "Extremely Rare Sig-Sauer P-220 Pre-Production Pistol"
Gun has been sold (not to me, of course), so listing is not live.

Extremely Rare Sig-Sauer P-220 Pre-Production Pistol

Summary:

- P220 (9mm Para)
- Pinch nose variety
- Triple serials, with frame serial number on the rear frame rail (Left)
- Serial # P 84341 (23 digits after Lorenz Vetter's prototype P220, serial # P 84318)
- No proof marks
- Apparently no import marks, either

Claim: "The "P" serial prefix and lack of commercial proofs indicates an in-house pistol not meant for commercial sale, while the high grade wooden grips may indicate that the pistol was presented as a gift or meant for display."

Prototypes and pilot production series of the P220 series have serial numbers form the P210 serial number range, which explains the P prefix.
The pistol shown is form the pilot series.
Early P220 pistols have been assembled in Neuhausen Switzerland. Therefor the absence of proof marks.
Proof firing is not mandatory in Switzerland and it has obviously shipped from there to another country without proof laws.
The girps are not original. Gips of that series are similar to those of the production series.

I'll guess that it's stocks are Siles. I don't recall my early BDAs having smooth faced triggers such as this P220. IIRC, they had serrated triggers. Tis a fine looking pistol just the same.

BTW, Joe Salter drives me crazy with firearms I love. I hope to buy from him when I can.

Cool!

I've seen a few P220s that the serial started with an H, (and one that ended in a D), but the P prefix is one I hadn't seen before.

This would be the pride of most any collection.

The "H" prefix has been used for .22 caliber P220 pistols or for .22 conversion kits with floating chamber. About 400 complete .22 pistol have been built and about 900 conversion kits have been assembled. They are marked either SIGSauer or SIGHämmerli.

Letters at the end of a serial number indicate double numbering.

That is grand! I envy the lucky buyer. That frame serial location continued into production at least for a short period. It moves to the front of the grip by the early 400's.

I like the “pinch nose” design. First time seeing this.

Q - Any idea what this pistol sold for?
