I've seen this recently on some websites for $650 when they were originally $1200-1300. Don't think this has ever been a big seller for FN. Think it may be headed toward being discontinued?

There's no telling, of course, but I'd point out that the SIG P2022 absolutely caught a new lease on life when they started to sell at pretty cheap prices and all of the sudden a whole lot of people wanted them.

My objection to the (new) FN High Power was that it didn't really offer anything new or special for the originally high prices. If more people buy them at the lower price and decide they're good pistols, then FN may have found a way to get paid back for its initial investment rather than being stuck with discontinuing an albatross.

One factor dragging down full price FN High Power sales is the simultaneous availability of less expensive Turkish HP clones like the Girsan P35, Tisas BR9, or the Springfield SA-35 (finished in the US from Turkish forgings).

Another big one is the fact that the new FN High Power is cosmetically similar to the original but internally different without parts compatibility, unlike all these less expensive clones.

Magazine compatibility may be one of the biggest deciding factors for many that own older FN's

What did FN’s new HP do to make it compelling?
-They changed up the internals
-I don’t think it’s optics capable
-Are the mags different???

I mean none of those things make it a better “fighting pistol” and none of those things make it a “nostalgic pistol”. So what does it offer??

I’d rather have an old High Power or a SA35 personally. I’d imagine I’m not alone in that thinking.

The new HP is somewhat heavier and chunkier than the original. That may not have helped it's case.

Look closer. I noticed the ones I'm seeing on sale come with 10rd mags.

PSA has them (w/ 10-rounder) on Clearance at $600.

I did not know that it’s incompatible with the original mag. I guess they took lesson from Beretta.

Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore has the black version for $650 and is listed with two 17-round mags.

Exactly. Or I guess, Beretta learned it from them. But yeah, just like the new 94 uses a longer mag than the 92, the current FN High Power uses a longer mag than the old one. Basically, it's like the difference between a P226 and P228 (same mag shape, just different length).

Been seeing this. I think changing up the mags was it's biggest downfall. I bought an SA-35. I just wanted a High Power, didn't need it to be high speed/Gucci and didn't want it over $700 and wanted easy to find mags.

Nah, Beretta is the master at design screw-up. Remember the Cougar from decades ago? It almost felt like they wanted to sabotage their new model at the time.

^^^Ohhh that’s right, I forgot about that. Yeah, that was ridiculous. I don’t know what possessed them to do that. This also isn’t the first time for FN either. They inexplicably changed the mag floorplate on the Five-seveN pistol when they introduced the MK3 MRD. The mag is identical otherwise, meaning the floorplate is the only thing keeping all Five-seveN mags from being interchangeable. Otherwise they would have been, going all the way back to the early ‘90s.

To be fair, Sig did the same thing... twice. First with the mid-production P250 baseplate design change and then again with the mid-production P320 baseplate design change. There are now three different types of baseplates, which prevent all P250/P320 mags from being interchangeable despite being otherwise identical.

Not to mention the P229 mag changes and lack of cross-compatibility.

^^^ I agree on the P250/P320. HK has done it too, sometimes understandably, sometimes not.

The P229 is a complete mess period, not just mags, but that’s always been more because of marketing and naming.

When I saw the new FN Hi Power I wass meh about the gun. It looked to0 much like a 3rd Gen S&W pistol to me.

I gotta say I'm pretty happy with my cheap Girsan. It takes HP mags, of which I had quite a few, shoots like the original. It will never be a collector, but its a fun shooter.

FN rep came into the store and let us shoot a new HP. Politely told him “nice” but privately felt “meh”, totally unimpressed.

I’ll keep my real HP’s three Herstals and one Portuguese. And my SA-35 is getting the BH Spring Solutions Fast Safety conversion together with a gloss black Cerakote. Already changed the grips to a more “correct” HP style.

That Fast Safety conversion is pretty neat. I have it on both my High Powers - a Browning and an Inglis (new version).
