Smith and Wesson just started Summer Freedom Days rebates $75 on M&P and $50 on Shield/EZ Shield effective through August 18. Pretty sure I am going to get a Shield Plus or M&P Compact myself. I expect we will see some really good deals on them.

Bought myself a Shield Plus optics ready with safety. Probably won't put an optic on it but had better sights than the standard version.

Local Range USA had on sale at $449 (regular $479) plus a $50 gift card for any S&W firearm purchase, and then the $50 S&W rebate so that was tempting enough for me.

Lots and lots of good firearm deals these days. Sadly being in Illinois I can't purchase a lot of them.

I hope you enjoy your new pistol. Getting good deals makes it even more fun.
I’m so glad I live in the south and don’t have to worry about capacity and etc. I can’t imagine how weird it would be to live in Cali or Illinois and have to consider such things.

I purchased the optic ready Shield Plus a few weeks ago and had the rebate card in about 2 weeks. It makes a great carry gun.

Glad you like yours and great on getting the rebate in short order. I pick mine up tomorrow, Illinois has a waiting period.

Thanks. Luckily I have most everything I want but it still sucks because no one will ship anything AR-15 related to Illinois because the law is so vague which means I can't get any replacement parts if something breaks in mine like a spring, firing pin, or even the grip. We were hopeful the AWB law would get struck down in fairly short order but that didn't happen and it could take years if it ever does happen. Mad

Dang, getting 13 rounds into the 13 round magazine proved to be a bit challenging with the new pistol but got it done. 10 round magazine not too bad. Surprised that I get a pretty good 2 and 1/2 finger grip on it with the 10 round magazine. Cleaned and lubed and will go to the range this week. Their website says this OR model has night sights but doesn't seem like it. Front is red fiber optic and rear has two dots but they don't glow after being exposed to light, hmm.

Thanks for posting about the rebate...And congrats of the new heater! Cool

Question about the Trigger on the Shield Plus:

With all the clamoring re: the lack of a Trigger Dingus on the P320/P365, and how that's somehow a 'fatal flaw' of the SIG Striker Fired Pistol(s), I'm interested in feedback on the latest implementation of said safety feature on the Shield Plus. My Niece is interested in getting her CCW Permit, one of the Pistols she's considering (along with some variant of the P365 or possibly a Glock 42/43) is the S&W Shield Plus. As the Safety Tab is essentially the full width of the Trigger Bow (and a significant departure from Glock's design!), how effective is it at preventing Trigger Movement (and a potential ND) from incidental contact from/to the side of the trigger?

Interesting observation on the trigger. The safety tab is not quite the full length of the trigger but close. From what I see it looks like it would prevent trigger activation if something pressed on the side of the trigger. However a good sturdy kydex holster designed for the Shield Plus will be what I am looking at and it must completely cover the trigger guard. For purse/fanny pack and such carry there are also options for a quick remove kydex trigger guard device. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a cloth or leather holster.

Mine has the safety. The safety is a bit difficult to use as it is very small but with my hands I can make it work but not sure everyone can. It looks like S&W top priority with the safety was to keep the Shield slim. The safety is not easy to activate which I think was done to minimize chances of accidental activation.

The trigger on mine which is new is not light and not sure how that will change with use. I don't want too light trigger anyhow and that a lot of manufacturers are putting light triggers on there striker fired carry pistols (especially with no safety option) I find is perplexing. I am fine with 5-6 pound trigger pull for self defense purposes on a striker fired pistol.

Anyhow great that you are helping your niece with this and have fun doing so. Plenty of choices these days too.

You might want to look into the 13 rounder follower fix as apparently some of the followers cause issues loading to full capacity and may cause an issue if you +1. Not saying this is or was your issue, just something to look out for.

That said all these new itty bitty stack and a half mags are a serious PITA to load early on. I used a loader early on with my Hellcat mags and that is just embarrassing for me dammit. Razz. I can’t speak to the Shield mags but the Hellcat mags did loosen up enough to load by hand fairly quickly.

Enjoy it and I hope you get many moons of reliable service from her.

Take care, shoot safe.
Chris.

Thanks Chris good to know. I took out the 11 I had in it and tried again after failing the first time with 13. It seems it is best not to push just straight down when loading them but down and toward the back side of the magazine with the magazine having the primer end of the cartridges to my left on a table. I was just using my hand/fingers and the last couple really put some pressure on my pad of my thumb to say the least having me say some unkind words and taking a break between number 12 and 13.

Mine has the safety as well and I agree it is not easy to manipulate like on the larger guns. I wish S&W would make a slimmer/longer safety as on the larger models or like on the P365. As far as the trigger goes, what a great feel. S&W knocked it out of the park with the newer flat trigger.

I bought a threaded compact 9mm for $389 at KYgunco that was marked down from $589. It has been about 10 days and my $75 rebate came today in an email. After rebate I have $338.40 in this pistol. I shot it over the holiday weekend and really like it.

Nice, and another smoking good deal!

If I lived in a free state I would probably own a whole lot more guns. Two years ago we stayed in a cabin in Gatlinburg and I couldn't believe the good guns prices and selection. Smoky Mountain Guns/Knifeworks and Buds who were both within walking distance of each other in Sevierville and I was in Seventh Heaven other than I couldn't buy anything at the store. Looks like we are going back this year. I told the wife to expect I will be buying a little ammo. Big Grin

Now the fine people at S&W are offering a "compensated" gun for the M&P and the Shield. I wonder if the rebate is good for either of those.

I know the metal framed Performance Center gun is $999, but I'm not sure about the lesser models. If I was going back to striker guns, that or a Shadow Systems comp would be high on the list.

I got my Smith and Wesson ecard rebate 6 days after applying for it! Linked it to our Amazon account and spent all but $1.23 of it. Smile

My Shield Plus is a sweet shooter and at least for me not at all "snappy", much like my Walther PPS. I had not been to the range in over 6 months Eek (where does the time go??) and shooting it at 21 feet was able to get almost all the shots on four inch target dot and improving as I went. I am very happy with my purchase and expect soon I will be able to get almost all shots on three inch target dot at 21 feet shooting at a leisurely pace.

Are you saying you DO find the PPS “snappy” or that the Smith is NOT snappy LIKE the PPS?

Just curious.

Sorry, they are pretty much the same both being sweet shooters for pistols of their size.
