Exciting news from Savage would have been the reintroduction of the Model 99 rifle. But in this day and age, adding another 1911 to the long list of ones already out there is like showing up at a party at 5AM with a case of beer and yelling "SURPRISE"!!!

You think this is expensive, a new 99 would probably cost $2500 or more. (and no doubt be a shadow of the old guns quality wise) Market saturation or not, putting out a 1911 is relatively simple for them to do, so I can understand trying. All the parts are available. If they wanted, they could produce them with no actual manufacturing, just assembly. (if even that) I'm a long time Savage fan, having and haning had many, I would actually kind of like to own a Savage branded (re-branded) 1911. Maybe just for empty nostalgia. I love (real) High Standard's, when the latest company using that name came out with a 1911 I thought it might be cool to own a High Standard branded model. But nope, with what they put out. I sort of feel that way about Savage. Kinda like the idea. But not with that slide. And not with the new Savage logo. And obviously not so soon on a unproven product. Realistically at this point I'd need a really good reason/excuse to buy another 1911, and because it says Savage really isn't enough.

I didn't say anything about "expensive", I said "exciting news". No doubt a new 99 would be expensive.... it would also be EXCITING. It's not that I don't wish Savage well with their endeavors, but another mediocre 1911 (time will tell if it is or if it is not) probably isn't going to excite a lot of people. And even less so if Savage were to "just assemble" pistols from readily available parts, then stamp their logo on the slide only to proclaim "we now offer a 1911!".

It’s going to post sales numbers right up there with the recent Savage Renegauge shotgun. Which is to say “none”. A 1911 with modern lines and a rail better be able to compete with someone like Staccato. I agree with the other poster who suggested that Savage release a classic Savage. I don’t see this working out. 0:01

When they release a model without that obnoxious rail I might be interested. With a rail, not the least bit interested because A) I'm not foolish enough to put a light on a pistol, and B) the original 1911 didn't have a rail and all my holsters are for the original. I've stopped counting.

They appear to show the railed models on their site without rails as well.

As a bonus, the rail-less models cost less too. https://www.savagearms.com/con...irearms&a=Savage1911

I'm not loving the price, but I do like the looks of the no railed two tone. I'm waiting to see what the you tube gun geeks think. There's a man with a pointy stick at the door!

Anything without a rail is a bonus and anything all steel is a double bonus.

That rug really tied the room together. |
I read an article about it in the latest Guns magazine. The author was sorta complimentary and sorta critical on the gun. He did say it was all forged and machined components with no mim parts. The slide is 100% made in house but the frame is forged and made by someone else. ______________________________________________________ Often times a very small man can cast a very large shadow

My first thought on a Savage 1911 is "Why?", but then I'm thinking "Why Not?" As already mentioned parts are readily available if they don't make them in-house yet, so start up cost is low. And it creates some news for the brand. Are they still selling their AR type rifles?
