Need advice. Took my brand new P320C 45 to the range for the first time. It shot fine, EXCEPT, there were numerous occasions when it failed to chamber a round after firing a few rounds successfully. This was caused by the magazine dropping just enough to prevent a subsequent round to chamber. I figured that maybe I was inadvertently activating the mag release button. I Readjusted my grip further away from the button but problem persisted. I’ve never had this problem with any of the numerous pistols I’ve owned and shot over the years. Has anyone else experienced this issue, and if so did you find a solution? Thanks. Vince

I have not experienced that issue, but it sounds like either you are inadvertently depressing your mag catch (which you appear to have recognized and taken steps to avoid),the mag isn't getting fully seated, or there is something mechanically wrong with the catch.

Try pulling on the base of your mag after you seat it, and see if it will come out of the gun without depressing the catch. Also, if you are seating a fully loaded mag with the slide closed, sometimes pressure from the top round against the bottom of the slide can make it difficult to get it fully seated. You may have to really smack it in there, or try locking the slide back and then inserting the mag.

Ultimately, the catch itself could be the problem. They're very easy to remove, and there are a number of youtube videos out there on the subject. First, look down inside the grip module and make sure everything looks undamaged and actuates as it should when you push the button. Pop it out and see if there are any burrs or odd looking wear. Also inspect the cutout on the magazine for the same.

My money is on the mag not getting fully seated, but it's hard to say for sure without actually being there.

vjmazz,

My EDC gun is the p320C 45. I know when I pull the mag from the gun and re-insert it, the mag fits in snuggly & I have to physically push it the last couple millimeters in until I feel/hear it click. I would try that 1st to see if maybe the mag isn't seated fully.

The P320 mags can sometimes be difficult to seat if they're fully loaded.

I've seen several shooters at meets drop a magazine at the start of a stage. The magazine appeared seated, but the jarring from recoil caused it to drop from the weapon after one or two shots.

I've also found that it's not that hard to press the mag release. There's a product that I put on each of my competition pistols, made by Align Tactical.

https://www.aligntactical.com

It repositions the contact surface of the mag release, moving it upward slightly, to prevent the fingers of the shooting hand from looping around the front strap and resting against the mag release. It also makes the mag release easier to press with the thumb, without it being inadvertently depressed.

Unfortunately, they don't make it for the .45.

It is possible, depending on the size of your hand, to contact the mag release with the fingers of the shooting hand. It's also possible depending on what holster arrangement that you use, to depress the mag release when holstered, holstering or drawing. It may be just enough to allow the mag to move.

Something I might suggest would be locking the slide back and inserting the magazine. See if the problem persists. If it doesn't, then most likely the magazine isn't being fully seated on insertion. You might also try running it with one less round loaded in the magazine and see if the problem goes away; if this works, it points to the same issue: the mag not being fully seated and fully locking in place.

I EDC a 320 Compact .45 and download my mags to 8+1. No issues for me.

Thank you for the advise. Next range day I will try loading the mags with 8 rds instead of 9, and make sure it's seated properly. Although after reading sns3guppy's post it could be caused by my fingers from my shooting hand touching the button during recoil. Too bad align tactical doesn't offer the repositioned mag release for the 45, it would possibly be a solution. Thanks again for your help.

Will the 9mm mags fit in the 45? Could you maybe have the incorrect mag(s) size?

Definitely a problem overall, and if it persists, I'd send it back to SIG if you don't think it's you.

If the mags are seated correctly and you’re still having the same problem, have someone else shoot your gun to see it happens to them

Update: magazines dropping
After following all the forum suggestions to solve the problem without success, I sent the gun back to Sig. They experienced the same problem and replaced the grip module and mag release button. Got the gun back and it failed again. Sent it back to Sig again. They replaced the module, mag release and take-down lever. Problem fixed. Just a note: Sig customer service was excellent. Turn around time each time was 1 week from the time I sent it. I’m glad they fixed the problem. Thanks for your input.
