I want an SP2022 9mm. I have been offered a good deal on an SP2022 .40 S&W.

Is it practical to convert the .40 to 9mm?

I assume that a barrel, recoil spring, and magazine(s) would be required, at a minimum. Will this work? Is there anything else required / recommended?

Or am I better off discarding the idea of a dual caliber SP2022, and just concentrating on the search for one in 9mm?

That should be all you need. My only question would be if it makes financial sense. the cost of 9mm conversion barrel, mags, and recoil springs you're at least halfway to the price of the whole gun.

I suspect you should be able to find a pre-owned 2022 9mm for around 450-500 its worth it. Love mine. I wouldn't mess with a conversion barrel when the caliber you really want is really simple to find.

The two previous posts both referred to "conversion barrel."

Is this an after-market part, specifically made to convert the .40 S&W SIG Pro to 9mm, like the $250 Barwto? If that is what is required, probably not worth it.

Or, will a standard 9mm SIG Pro barrel do the job? If this works, it would be a low-cost way to have a P2022 for both calibers. SIG is listing the barrel for $179 on their website, might be able to find one elsewhere for a lower price -- I have found a new one for $159.

Practical? Well, you only have one gun to clean. I would look for a 9mm if you're looking to carry. Although the difference in the breach face is negligible, a separate sp2022 with a 9mm slide would be best. You can even use the 40 mags with 9mm at the range. Pick up a 357 barrel while you're at it Big Grin

The one that you linked to, for $399, is the California compliant model. 10-round magazines, not a big deal, Greg Cote has the 17-round MecGars, but the California model has internal extractor.

Palmetto State has the non-California model for $499, this has the short external extractor.

I am extractor-ignorant. Are there advantages / disadvantages to internal vs. external?

Thread got me looking. Just saw a German framed Sigpro with box 12-DEC-2008 with all 3 grips for 450 BIN. Wow. Exeter may be fine but these are the ones to get imo. Internal extractor and LCI.

GB 1024093774. There's also a French police issue for $1695 if you're looking for that (1016554204) Eek

I know nothing about extractor differences but for $100 I am not sure it would matter to me.

Actually the best one to have is the Swiss framed proprietary Sig railed model.

the difference in the extractor width is the concern... and with 9mm you might not always get full ejections.... Just a barrel and spring swap works on some pistols... but I would not trust my life to it... as for less costly practice using 9mm, go for it.

Oddly, I have a SP2022 I did the opposite to but I changed out the entire slide to go to 357sig. Guess if I ever get back to my gun club I could try it with just the 9mm barrel and spring. All purchased from good members here:
