I used to own a S+W model 617 .22LR with full underlug and 8 3/8" barrel, it felt like you were holding a boat anchor. I think it was around 48-50 ounces if I remember and not balanced very well.

My Thompson Center Contender . Each 14 “ Bbl. has a IER scope . The 45-70 Govt. has a 12” & really that is a 10” with muzzle tamer.
Each is the weight of two regular pistols.

1 shot 1 kill on 3 different animals... wild Hog feral Boar was the hardest to put down.
A strap going from around my neck , and out to my web on my thumb. That stabilized my free standing hold enough to place deadly shots.

All of them are heavy, I've never weighed them.

These first two photos share a common frame. 50 caliber muzzle loader and 30-06 with the scope. 15" or so barrel lengths for both.

S&W 4506-1. Around 2.6 pounds, loaded. Not that bad to carry with a good belt and the right holster. And the weight makes it easy to shoot accurately. Regards 18DAI

Yea, like Z06, definitely in the current days handguns my 6" Python. My others are 1911's and a P228, so there's that weight wise. I've always enjoyed shooting the 6" for accuracy and very light recoil but always had the 4" itch too Smile

Smith & Wesson model 617-0, an original 6 shot no dash with a 6 inch barrel. Note, a Full lug 6 inch barrel. Weighs in at 52 ounces per my Lyman Digital trigger gage. Yeah, my heaviest handgun is a 22 caliber revolver. Good news is that recoil is not a problem for new shooters. However holding the barrel up can be an issue for some new shooters.

I've stopped counting.

Our Ruger Redhawk .44mag w/4" barrel is the most massive we own. A colt Anaconda .44mag is not far behind.

We trudge on.
