New to me Ruger Security Six
I've always had a fondness for the Ruger Six series double action revolvers. The other day one of my favorite local shops put up a pic of a nice Ruger Security Six on their facebook page. I was leaving the house in a few so I stopped on over and had to have it.

1979 mfg Ruger Security Six, 4" barrel in .357 magnum. Has a little bit of muzzle wear from holstering and a line on the cylinder but otherwise in great shape. Barrel rifling and forcing cone look great, lockup is tight. The original wood grips are in VG condition with no major marks or dings. No box but did come with a manual and a leather OWB holster by Bianchi. Price was $599 and I was happy to pay it.

Here she is with her siblings. On her left is a 1977 mfg Ruger Speed Six .357 with 2 3/4" barrel and on the right is a 1987 mfg Ruger Speed Six GS33-PS .357 with 3" barrel that is a documented Postal Inspectors gun.

Hope to update with a range report next week.

Very nice. They are a solid performer that will last for a long time.

There will always be a place for revolvers in my life, and I think you did really well with that purchase.
Congrats

As far as lasting a long time-it already has. I was in my early teens when I got my first one, only replaced it last year. One of my favorite guns ever.(Sold the first one when I was hard up for cash in the 80's.)

I know nothing about Ruger, what differences are there between the Speed Six and Security Six?

Speed Six has fixed sights and I believe they are .38 caliber and round butt. Here is mine from 1976.

Speed Six is round butt, fixed sights calibers .38, .357 and 9mm, barrel lengths 2 3/4", 3" and 4", finishes Blue or Stainless

Police Service Six is square butt, fixed sights calibers .38, .357, 9mm, barrel lengths 2 3/4", 3", 4", 6" Blue Finish only

Security Six is square butt, adjustable rear sight, calibers .38, .357, 9mm, barrel lengths 2 3/4", 3", 4" and 6", Blue or Stainless finish

I think there was even a rare caliber of .380 rim?

Those Rugers are tanks. Over time, they actually handle some hotter .357 loads (125 grain) better than Smiths. I have a SS 4" Security Six and love it.

Excellent purchase. I have always liked the Ruger Six series that I own (Security and Service). Never located a Speed Six when I had gun money available. Enjoy!

Excellent-looking Ruger hardware in this thread!

First group fired. 125gr Fiocchi JHPs at 10 yards fired offhand, single action.

Put 100rds total through it, 30 magnums, the rest 38 and 38+P. I did have one failure to ignite, blazer brass .38sp. I moved the cylinder to strike it a 2nd time and nothing. Pull the round, it had a nice dimple in the primer, put it in my Speed Six and it fired off.

Maybe this old girl needs some new springs.
