Something about the PDP that feels great in the hand and seriously considering one.
Considering the 4.5" or 5" in full size.
Not going to be a carry gun.
Any opinions?

Indeed. The PDP feels great in the hand. I owned a 4.5" which I believe is the sweet spot. The 5" model seemed awkward. Be sure to purchase a 2nd Generation model with the improved optic mounting system. My pistol was an early 1st Generation gun upgraded with Walther's Dynamic Performance Trigger. I only traded it away to fund another project.

I have the 4 inch full size I love the balance of that size, but I would consider a 4.5 inch too the only way I would get a 5 inch barrel if Walther made it in a 10MM which they don’t make as of yet. The PDP is a great gun you’ll love it fantastic trigger too grip is awesome also and nice quality and build too. I hope this helps you with your decision.

Yeah, I am concerned about that too.
However, I called Walther this morning and they assured me it was no big deal. Frown
...and the only way to determine in advance is to open it up or call them with a SN. Frown

I confess that I've got a soft spot for long slide 9mms so the 5" was my choice of poison. I find that it handles well and compared to my other recent poly long slide striker pistols--Canik TP9SFs in two configurations and my 5" HK VP9 Tactical--it shoots and accounts for itself very well. I will say that I favor the Turks in this select group because of quality of their trigger action, but all are great at what I expect of them and none would be something I'd regret buying again.

The PDP itself reminds me a lot of the previous PPQ it replaced, which is definitely not a bad thing. As strikers go its trigger action is maybe a little nicer than the one in my 'classic'/M1 series PPQ, but that's quibbling more than anything else. Both guns have great striker triggers. The PDP is virtually the same weight as my 4" PPQ, but it doesn't have quite the same amount of muzzle rise for me as the older gun does. Maybe that's due to longer barrel or some other design differences between the two, but it's definitely a plus for me. The amount of play between slide and frame was initially a little disconcerting but it allows me to shoot it accurately regardless. Its only real downside is the separated eco-system of magazines that's only compatible with the M2-series PPQs and not with my earlier version, which I never bought into because I already owned the M1 and prior mag compatible P99s. This is one time I wish Walther had been more "HK"-like, where HK made the lever catch and button catch VP9s work with the SAME P30-configuration magazine. Frown

But regardless, if by now you haven't been able to tell I'd pick and heartily recommend the 5" every time. Smile

It seems like not going the Gen2 revised slide is maybe only an issue with red dot sights with enclosed emitters, like the ACRO or Holosun HE509T. Kind of annoying, since that Holosun is the red dot that I was considering for my 5" PDP.

It's probably not a big deal - though they did modify the design rather early in production. Per Walther, the 2.0 revision began at serial number(s) FDL9203, FDM0001, and FDN3124.

Well, ordered a 4.5" version and still not sure if I did the right thing.
I guess I could always but a 5" later. Smile
Had to get something my dealers sale was ending today.
Will keep my fingers crossed it is a gen 2 optics slot.

I have a PDP-C and a PDP Pro. For the money the PDP Pro is worth it just for the upgraded trigger, not to mention flared magwell, threaded barrel etc.

I have a PDP with the 4.5" barrel. It's accurate, well balanced, and with the Holosun 507, almost impossible to miss the target!

I've got the PDP Compact with the 4" barrel with a Delta Point Pro optic. At 10 yards it can make a fist sized group all day long. I know a lot of people can do better, but that's pretty good for me.

I've not handled the PDP but I own PPQs and a Q4SF and I have to say that Walther's Dynamic Performance Trigger is fantastic, and I mean that- truly fantastic. Well worth the price. I don't think you'll find a trigger that gives a more refined trigger pull in a striker-fired pistol.

The Glock Performance Trigger improves the stock trigger pull of Glock pistols. There's no denying this, but Walther's trigger is a dream.

I ordered an Overwatch Precision trigger with the PDP.
The also make them for Glock.

Q4SF

^^^ this impressed me immensely. Handled one at Collectors Firearms, felt amazing but not shot one.
Very interested in getting one of these one day.

Colion Noir really liked it:

I have an Overwatch Precision trigger installed in my Compact PDP and it works very well for me. I had OP triggers installed on my Walther PPQ SF Q5, my PPQ Q5 polymer framed gun, and a Generation II PPQ 9mm 4", all of which I owned before Walther started importing their Dynamic Performance triggers, so I haven't been able to compare them to the OP offerings. That said, I installed a Generation 2 "Pyramid" trigger in my Glock 43X and it's incredible! At least as good and possibly better than the Overwatch Precision triggers in my Walthers.

I agree. My favorite striker trigger. I have one in a Q5SF. I've been considering a PDP Pro because the DPT is included.

My PDP came in and I ran 100 rounds through it initially.
Not overwhelmed but it was decent and fairly accurate.
A little hard to acquire the stock sights quickly but I have a SRO to mount when the plate from Walther arrives.
I did not install the upgraded Overwatch Precision trigger yet and the factory measured 4.75lb - not bad - but not an upper tier trigger either and I am not complaining.
I have an upgraded recoil from Sprinco on the way too.
Still a work in progress.
So all and all it was a good day. Smile

Well. it's getting better.
Put on the following:
* Overwatch Precision Performance Trigger with 3.8lb trigger spring.
* Sprinco Metal Guide Rod with lighter yellow spring.
* Free Optic Plate from Walther Plate came in and installed
* on Trijicon SRO

Intial takes
* Wow what a trigger improvement ~ not only in weight but take up and reset.
* First time using a pistol red dot ~ getting used to acquiring the target.
* Love the SRO and the 3.25MOA dot is just right for accuracy and fast shooting.
Was debating between a 1 MOA and a 5/6 MOA but I think I got it right.

The only issues:
* Shot low and left (one hole) and I forgot a small screwdriver to adjust the optic.
* Had a couple FTF and think maybe I need to use the regular power spring rather than the lightweight one I ordered, was shooting 115gn Fiocchi

The only other considerations are whether to get a magwell or backstrap that is weighted to help with the balance but that will be determined with more experience.
...And the factory sights now are useless (can't see) and may need to get something taller.

Overall I was very pleased with the improvement over the first shooting session.

That sight needs to be taller.

What's the holster for this setup look like? What happens if you battery dies and you don't find out until you really need your phaser?

I am experimenting with dots right now and while the dot housing itself combined with the dot sort of teaching more of a fast point shooting type “feel” I am able to get ugly hits at 7ish yards and in. Now that said I simply cannot imagine running any kind of electronic or “fragile” sight without immediate access to irons if need be.

I DO like the dots in my shooting. They DO offer tangible benefits. There is NO WAY IN HELL I would be comfortable relying on them 100%.

Again I am just an idjit experimenting with them. Nothing more nothing less

That SRO does look huge on that gun. Smile.
