Mecgar P226 magazines
My nephew is in need of some additional magazines for his P226. I see TGS has Mecgar mags at a reasonable price. Anyone got experience to share with these? I’ve generally had good luck with Mecgar magazines.

You can't go wrong with these magazines. MecGar is an OEM supplier of pistol magazines for major manufacturers.

Almost every Sig mag I own is a MecGar, never a problem with any of them. I probably only have a couple of Sig branded mags and carry the MecGar mags as my EDC mags as well as mags for matches.

Yes, Walther, Beretta, Browning Arms (FN), SIG-Sauer have at one time or another, used MecGar magazines for OEM. There are other manufacturers who have done the same.

MecGar makes a damn nice product. The only issue I've heard about is those eleven round .40 caliber mags for the Beretta 92 err 96, and I think they worked that out.

I have used the MG 18 and 20 round mags in competition. Never an issue and usually cheaper than Sig factory mags. Greg Cote (member) has these in stock.

I've not had any problems with Sig's US made magazines, but I do prefer the MecGars.

MEC-GAR rarely misses a beat and their P226 mags are great. In many cases MEC-GAR makes the superior product no matter if cheaper in price. While they make OEM stuff for damn near everybody in many cases there offerings have a better follower or finish or capacity etc. all while being cheaper and as or more reliable then what they make for the OEM.

They have had a misstep here or there but as a rule they are the top of the mag game.

The only SIG mag that Mec-Gar screwed up on was the P227 14-rounder.

Mec-Gar makes excellent magazines. A buddy of mine has some Sig Sauer marked 18 round Mec-Gars for his P226. How rare are those?

Interesting. The only mec gars I’ve ever had issues with are for the .40 Taurus PT100/101 that’s a copy of the Beretta. They feed perfectly but they swell when fully loaded and are very tight getting them in or out of the gun. Once down to about 9 rounds they go in and out fine.

To the OP the Mec gar P226 mags are flawless as noted.

They also messed up on the Beretta 96 magazines. They are jam-o-matics when used in a Cx4 Storm with the 96 magwell. I even contacted them about the problem, and they admitted the same but were not going to redesign them. It's weird as they work flawlessly in the 96.

But back on track, their P226 magazines are as good as any SIG branded magazine.

I have about 20 Mecgar magazines for my P226. They’ve been drug through the dirt in training, had thousands and thousands of rounds through them, and never had any parts replaced. I’ve never, not once, in all that time had a magazine related failure.

The 18rd Mec Gar P226 magazines are outstanding. Buy with confidence.

Mecgar mags in my Sigs have been good to go.

Just be aware that the 18 round Mec Gars aren’t really flush fit. The factory ones are flush, but the 18rd had a plastic bottom that sticks out from the grips a bit. Not quite as much as Glock but similar.

But they’re good mags.

My California-purchased P226 X5 Competition came with two 10-round mags. Unknown brand, but not Mecgar. Getting the 10th round into them was damned hard, even with my UpLULA.

A window opened (briefly) allowing CA residents to legally purchase and own full capacity mags. I purchased some full capacity Mecgar mags. No problem to fully load those, despite being full capacity. Very happy with Mecgar!
