I was hoping a few of the Sig experts here could help me out. I am going to list for sale some of my P220’s. One I purchased in 97/98? And it has the Grey plastic box with no label on it. It’s a Made in Germany marked stainless slide with internal extractor , black frame , dovetail front and rear sights. When did Sig switch from the cardboard foam Interior Gun boxes?to the plastic ? Back then what model would this be? P220 two tone ? I don’t think back in the 90’s that sig had that many different P220’s. Nitron only , Nickle, two tone, stainless...

Oh and it came with 7 round zipper. Back mags.

I'm not an expert, but a 220 fan. I believe the WG 220's went from the cardboard box to the gray box somewhere around 95/96. I have a a nickel 220 that has the cardboard box that dates to 93.

I also have 2 tone 220 that is a German made and that comes in the gray hard box that dates to around 2000.

Does your 2 tone have the 3 matching serial numbers? They are on the slide, barrel and frame.

Nope. No 3 matching serial numbers.

I know I bought this brand new in I think 1997
Anyway to date the serial Numbers?

WG Sigs have 3 matching serial numbers. It may be a German.

If you bought it new from a reputable dealer, it should have come with the soft cardboard outer sleeve with all the factory labels on it.

Yes it came with a sleeve. I didn’t know then what I know now and threw it away.

I have an “over stamp” 220 that I bought in 96/97, can’t remember exactly. I probably have the receipt somewhere.......but anyway, it came in a gray plastic case, which was inside of a thin cardboard box. I still have the box, but it’s in bad shape.

I am no expert, but I consider this the best era for the P-220.

The market prices right now on guns is all over the spectrum in today’s day and age. Gotta figure out where to price this at.

If you can come up with some catchy phrasing, you might be surprised what it can do for you on some auction sites.

You may want to include, "this is the vintage preferred by many purists" . It is only an opinion, but marketing is all about convincing someone, what you have is special, that they need.

Don't laugh, when you see what some run of the mill Sigs bring on some auction websites, it is crazy. But they often have a catch phrase that someone falls in love with. How else can you explain some of the stupid prices we see from time to time?

The market for single stack .45's is not exactly "all the rage" at this point in time.

For me, it is a $500-$550 P-220.

With the right marketing, I believe you may do better.

I would agree as well. Previous to the panic $500 - $600. Maybe right now that everyone is panicking it would go for more, but you will have to work to get alot more than that.

Are you ABSOLUTELY certain about the 'Stainless' Slide? I'm pretty confident SIG was not using a Stainless Slide, especially one marked 'Made in Germany' w/ Triple S/N's in the 96-97 time frame. It's actually MUCH more likely to be a P220 two tone w/ a Nickel Slide.

Further, by the time SIG was putting Stainless Slides on P220's, the Made In Germany was on the Frame only, rollmarked as 'Frame Made in Germany'. It wasn't until much later (Mid 2000's?) when full German guns had the 'DE' rollmark that they were again roll marking 'Made In Germany' on Slides.

hjs157 is 'the authority' on the P220....Hopefully he'll be along soon to impart his knowledge.

The final foam lined, two-piece grey cardboard box was observed in 1994 (KE). Judging from the OP's description, I too discount the notion the slide is made of stainless steel. Given the vintage, I suspect a folded carbon steel slide with nickel finish. 10x, attached is a comparison photo of a stamped carbon steel slide vs. a machined slide. If your slide has a separate, pinned breech block it is not stainless steel. Also, late 1990's vintage 7-round P220 magazines will be of the dovetail variety - not zipper back which were much earlier.
