I don’t think my wife would let me use bacon grease inside the house. Lol. Eezox? No way. I’m in the whatever you got category. I’m also in the “why do Sig owners palpitate at the idea of not using the proper grease on rails” category. Nobody worries about rails like classic Sig P series owners. We even have our stickie. Is CZ and Beretta aluminum different? I use Mobil 1 synthetic and TWB25 grease because that’s what I have a bunch of and at least the oil was cheap. Keep Eezox in needle applicator bottles for clp stuff. I do love Eezox.

I suspect many folks, like me, use what was originally recommended to them be a knowledgeable person. In my case it was G-96 oil by a retired FBI supervisory agent and Quantico firearms instructor. Who is also my oldest friend (we go back the middle school in 1980). I also use WC grease for rifle high-wear parts and WC lube for pistol high-wear parts. G-96 for light wear/surfaces. Seems to work just fine.

Most shooters don’t ever fire their guns enough for the type of lube they use to make any difference in any practical way such as longevity. Virtually the only problem they’re going to actually become aware of is when an autoloading firearm starts malfunctioning because they didn’t use enough lube in the right places. And then many are too ignorant to identify the actual cause and will blame it on the gun itself or something like “limp-wristing” that they heard mentioned at the gun store counter. What I do find a little amusing is when someone admits to using a common product that is widely condemned like WD-40. Someone on another forum mentioned that he was an active competitor and used the stuff on his 1911s. Despite his claim being no different than anyone else’s “It works fine for me,” it was met with immediate outrage of the, “WD-40 is not a lubricant and can’t be used for that purpose!!!” sort. The difference between his claim and that of someone who said he used Oilman Ti-36x lube was that most people had never heard of the latter, but even though they’d never used WD-40 for any sort of lubrication themselves, they had no doubt that what they’d heard must be correct. Some time ago Armalite offered advice about lubricants which mentioned that the practice in some third world areas of using cooking oil was not to be recommended. When I read that, I could only think, “Don’t they have any motor vehicles there that they could wipe a bit of oil off the dipstick from?” But if the type of lube someone uses will never have any effect someone will notice, then the same is true of things like how he cleans the bore or whether there’s rust under the forend. ► 6.4/93.6
