CA has some very challenging obstacles when it comes to carry guns... I’m retiring soon and looking to buy CA approved guns from here on out. What are people in the Golden State buying and carrying now? I’m looking for what we call here “roster” guns...

I carry P229 .357 Sig and P239 9mm in CA. they were both purchased years ago so not sure if they are still on the 'approved' list for purchase now

If I were to stick to the roster, then Gen 3 Glocks. I personally would never own or carry something with a mag disconnect or the pop up chamber indicator. I carry a Gen3 and a Gen4 glock, and also an LCP.

I'm no longer in California, but when I was there, I bought a Gen3 Glock and a S&W M&P Shield (original). They were on the roster when I was there. I suspect they still are, but do your due diligence.

I am not in California but because I am always playing mental games in my head I have thought of this and at least as of today my world doesn’t change much. -HK P2000 probably in .40 as I prefer the larger caliber especially given the mag restriction. -HK USPc .45 I just love this gun and I love .45. With 10 rounds of .45 on tap with the elephant foot mags I would fee completely fine. 8 round flat floorplate is eminently concealable. -HK USP .45 full size. Just a helluva good gun for the nightstand and again I don’t feel undergunned with 10 rounds of .45 on tap. Fairly easy to mount a good light and you have a fantastic HD pistol. So those would be my on roster choices and they aren’t really much different then my go to guns today. Apologies if not being a CA resident “poops” on your thread. I did make sure my choices were on roster and if you want me to delete I will do so. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

I’m in San Diego. I recently bought an S&W M&P Shield (only V 1.0 on CA roster) and plan to apply for a CCW. I have an Apex trigger enhancement package and TruGlo TFX sights I will be putting on the Shield. As you probably know, you can buy off-roster guns , e.g. advertised through Calguns.net. However, prices are crazy high. A P320 might cost $1800. I also just put in a special order for an S&W 986 9 mm revolver. I figure if worse comes to worst and the Dems succeed in taking away semi-auto pistols I will at least have some decent revolvers. As for Sigs, the only desirable one on the roster for me is the P226 MK25; I already have two P229’s and a P226. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

Haven't been there in 16 yrs. Used to be you could only have 3 guns listed on your CCW.(?) The powers that be suggested that one of them be a revolver. The thinking being that if the other 2 broke you would be good until you got one fixed or you requalified with a new gun. May mean nothing. Depending on how CA. works it today. _______________________________________________________________ It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit. Harry S. In San Diego now you can have unlimited guns on your CCW list, but the card has room for only three. They give you another card if you have >3. Biggest problem is the backlog on CCW’s, about a year I think. San Diego County Gun Owners (also in Riverside and I think other places) is a great resource helping people get CCW’s. They have a podcast: Gun Owners’ Radio. Fighting behind enemy lines! _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

The two "rostered" pistols that I most often carry are my M&P9 and my Kahr CW9...both have been sightly massaged by Apex Tactical parts or GGI(respectively) The gun I'm working with currently is my SIG 320. I got it before the end of the Single Shot Exemption and it's versatility of configuration got me out of the Glock lineup (used to carry a Glock 19) No, Daoism isn't a religion

My gun friends that live in counties that issue carry permits usually have Glock 26/27 or MP shields or the Springfield XD pocket gun can’t remember the model. I have seen sig 365 for sale on consignment and gun boards at just stupid prices. Like 1800+ and they move fast at that price. Don’t know anybody with the single stack Glock models. Too much $$ asked to only get 1/8 inch skinnier and reduced capacity. I know a guy in his 70s that’s a company vendor who carries a smith snub revolver.

I respect the old school guys who carry revolvers...it’s a proven system. I own a couple of snubbies myself.

First I am not “old” I haven’t seen half a century yet. Second I may have an old soul but that’s neither here nor there. Third, IMO, the Jframe sized revolver still makes a fantastic real world defensive arm even in the 21st century. Again only my opinions and experiences and truth be told when I carry most often it’s a Glock 19 sized semi but in a pocket I am Jframe all day and here is why. -I envision the vast majority of confrontations to be up close dog fights at contact and physical fighting distances. The small revolver excels at firing on contact, from a pocket, at off angles or grips etc. it’s a good tussle choice IMO. -The shape makes it harder to grab. Although the cylinder can be bound on a grab and semi at least gets you one shot here. -The shape not only lends itself to pocket carry because it looks more wallet then Gun, it is also far easier to draw then any small auto in my experience. -Standing with your hands in your pocket ready to draw a Jframe is extremely unobtrusive and non threatening yet you are gripped and ready to go instantly. Revolvers also have lots of other inherent strengths and weaknesses but those are why I think a small J frame esque revolver still makes a lot of sense even in 2021. Put a set of laser grips on it and load up with a high grade Gold Dot or HST and you could do a hell of a lot worse in a pure defensive tool. "Guns are tools. My apologies - I’m what you would call old school so I generally consider it a compliment...passed the half century Mark a couple years ago. All your points are valid. One of my next ones on the short list is a 340PD or Kimber K6S. (If I can find one these days)

No offense of any kind was taken. I was just pointing out that while “old school” the J Frame IMO still makes a very versatile defensive arm and I just wanted to qualify that with the fact that I wasn’t of an age where I figured smokeless powders were a fad. Again Haven't been there forever. If you can have than 3 I assume that's State wide. When I was there. 3 was CA. "State" Reg. The (issuing) County Sheriff didn't have any say so. _______________________________________________________________ It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit. Counties have their own discretion. Ours allows 5, the neighboring county is 10. It's strange.

This is the option I took I haven’t looked at the roster recently, so I’m not sure it’s on it, but a Shield 1.0 and a couple of MagGuts equipped magazines might not be a bad choice.
