No box, one factory zipper back magazine - $500. Took it home and did a complete frame strip and cleaned it right up. No date code on the bottom but Sig CS places it circa 2000-2001 production.

Seeing what some of these go for on Gunbroker, I think I did okay price wise. I wanted a shooter anyway, not a collector piece. I reserve the right to still buy a pristine W. German P228 still in the box with the target and everything for $1500-$2000, but that would be down the road sometime.

A decent deal can still be had. In a world of P320s and P365s, I'd rather have a classic P series. Just where I'm at lately.

That’s excellent price for an excellent condition P228. Btw, you could have looked up our own serial number thread and came up with the same approximate year, which is what the SIG CS did, anyway. Wink

Very nice!

My W.German P228 was the first Sig I ever bought & shot, and what made me fall in love with the classics

For that price, I wouldn't be able to get my wallet out fast enough. You did really well, congrats. The P228 was the third gun I ever owned/bought and had to sell it years ago when I was starting out to pay for family needs. If I can find one now, especially at that price, I will probably jump on it.

Looks like a light coat of oil from his cleaning. Doesn’t look like any K-koted SIGs I’ve ever seen.

Just a standard bluing from what I can tell. I had just cleaned it so it was a little “wet.”

I’m excited to take it shooting later this week when the night sights come in.

Does it have any German proofmarks? My 2009 P225 had the proofmarks on the barrel.

No unfortunately. From what I’ve gathered, P228s in this time period were being assembled here in the US from German frames and slides and other parts. Those proof marks are only present on guns that were assembled in German factories is my understanding.

Took the P228 to the range yesterday and figured I'd share. I consider myself an average shot on a good day. I haven't shot since May. All shots were at 7 yards, unsupported two-handed slow fire.

First magazine, I used what I thought I remembered as being the "combat" hold with Sig sights where you cover the bullseye with the front sight. Group was sloppy to be expected, but hitting a lot higher than I expected.

I put on a 6" target and tried again making some adjustments to my grip and pressure and was able to start moving some shots down, but over half still landing high.

I decided to shoot a magazine through my W. German P226 at an even smaller 3" circle just... to check. Sloppy, yes, but POA and POI were as expected.

Decide to run the 228 one more time with an 8" target and shot a mag of FMJ followed by a mag of 124 grn Federal HST. I was using more of a 6 o'clock hold and tightened up my grip and had much better results. Looking forward to the next outing.

Nice shootin'...looks like you're getting it dialed in. Getting to know a new gun is always a bit of a process for me, but it's a fun and rewarding process.
