I have never owned a SAO Sig before only DA/SA in 228, 229, & 226.

But since most of my non-Sig pistols are SAO, I was wondering what you guys thought of of their 229 Legion SAO version?

Is there a reason they no longer sell that variation on their website?

When it was available it was a popular model for us. Frankly every P229 Legion in and configuration was a fast mover in our shop. But the SAO was the 'special' one that got requested for the most. If I remember correctly, it's one of the very few if not the only P229 variant to ever be available in SAO.

As for why and how SIG chooses which versions to make or discontinue...well, that's anybody's guess. If our shop had its choice, the SAO would be the one still in production, not the "traditional" DA/SA.

I bought a P229 SAO Legion frame for my orphaned W. German P228 top, creating a novelty for the fun of it..Not sure what I can tell you. It's just a production P-series SIG, but in SAO. As to why SIG discontinued it, who knows. It's just like many other models before it. *BOOM* it's gone.

I too was surprised with the SAO’s Sig had discontinued? They are remarkably great shooters on par in performance of 2011’s and there like. And at a much better price point.

even though I too am a DA/SA shooter I broke down and bought a P226 Legion in SAO last year... the factory trigger on that pistol is phenomenal. I would expect a P229 to be the same.

My experience as well. I have carried my 226Legion SAO as a duty gun for years and quite frankly, it's on par with the STI level single actions. Sig reliable, accurate, superb trigger...

If I were to do it again, I may have gone the 229 SAO route, just for a more compact gun. I suspect you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.

For a production gun, it has a good trigger, but not what I would call phenomenal. I reserve "phenomenal" for the likes of The Sig Armorer or Langdon Tactical. There is no way any stock SIGs made in NH can equal one that had TSA's work on.

I sold one of these to a member here and handled it a little before I shipped it. The trigger on that example was very good. Considerably better than the non-Legion P226 Elite SAO I own.

I had a P220 SAO years ago and wound up selling it. The trigger was good, but not as good as any of my 1911's. I've never shot a 226 or 229 SAO so I can't offer any relevant comment on those, although I will confess to having an occasional yen for a 226 SAO.

229-1 mag. But, yes, it will also take the P228 mag.

Are you saying I can send a P226 Legion SAO to the Sig Armorer and it will be improved to the point of "phenomenal?"

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Never had the SAO Legion sent to TSA myself, but based on my experience with other stock DA/SA SIGs, and other reports on SAO SIGs (even the German Xgun), my answer is the unequivocal yes.

Interesting, we just looked at one at the LGS. It looked nice, but like you, we’ve never had the SAO only, only DA/SA versions of Sig. Will be looking again, we actually wanted to look at a P220, not the P229, but the LGS didn’t have one of those at the time. I do like the Legions, we hadn’t decided on whether we will want the SA or the DA/SA yet. I personally didn’t try the trigger myself on the 229, since we we knew we wouldn’t want to buy it, sorry.
