why 5"??? Sure you get a little more energy on the bullet, and if using iron sights the sight radius is longer, but are there other reasons for a 5"??

it shouldn't be more accurate or anything like that.

That would be sweet. Or a P220. Maybe in SAO.

Reissue the P220 in 9mm. Or a BDA heel mag release version. A big cool af single stack Da/SA 9mm at something short of collector prices would be sweet!

For me, it would have more to do with the way the gun balances and recoils at speed.

Easy example is comparing RMR equipped Glocks. Comparing the 17 to the 34, fails logic as a measurable difference. For all the reasons you mention. Until you shoot them. The 34 wins out because the dot travels less at .25 splits.

5 inch 226 on an aluminum frame would have a similar characteristic. But, put it on a steel frame and it would be the most exciting thing you could do with your clothes on. It would excell in 135-147 grain bullets.

All stainless P228 with internal extractor or short external extractor. No long external extractor. No rail, no tail, no Elite crap.

It's called the Allround.

Cr*p - I wish I hadn't started this thread. I keep learning about all these great guns I didn't know existed. My 226 is one of my favorite pistols - but discovering that they made one with a 5" barrel. Who knew. and I agree with others, the advantage is that it has a longer sight radius and will presumably be softer shooting/less muzzle rise. And if it's not going to be used for concealed carry, who really cares about the additional size or weight? The only downside is the price (38supersig, not sure where you found one for $800, but that's a great price).

Don't know if these are Steel Challenge, IDPA, etc. legal, but if you're ok with DA/SA pistol, it seems to me these would be great. However, for range plinking, bullseye or just seeing how small a group you can shoot at 25 yards I'd still go for a P210.

No, it's not. A no-bells-and-whistles 5" 226 would be an entirely different beast whether it's an ST or not. Particularly in 357SIG, which, judging from what I've seen with the 220/ST/Match in .45, might also be an entirely different beast. I'll take no SAO-only triggers and no blocky (and proprietary AF) adjustable sights every time.

Did you alter the slide release or does it come that way?

^^^ Thats the way it came.

I have swapped the grips with some black Nills and a magwell. Then found some extra magazines with the extensions when they became available.

Thats about it.

It's not what? The original Allround is an all stainless DA/SA 5-inch P226 that meets Jones' requirements, and it has "no-bells-and-whistles". Take a look at what .38supersig posted above and do tell me what the "bells and whistles" are on that gun. If you think the aluminum jet funnel and the extended +2 aluminum base are bells and whistles, they were added aftermarket. The original gun has the 17-rd flush fit mag and no jet funnel. The Nill grips there are also aftermarket. The original stock grips are regular plastic.

The fact that the X5 226 is no longer offered kinda shoots your argument in both feet, doc.

The thread title doesn’t say “what unicorn could SIG make and you’d buy it”. The last sentence states “what pistol would you want SIG to start making”.

I want them to start making a 5 inch 226.
