I have a 226 conversion kit (9mm to 22LR).I am looking to install a budget red dot optic with a mounting plate that replaces the rear sight. This will be for plinking and not not for any serious or critical use. Anyone here done this on a 22 conversion slide. Looks like the rear sight slot on the aluminum slide is not the same spec as the standard P226 rear dovetail. Any reccomendations would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I sent an inquiry with pics and measurements to Al at EGW. He responded that they have no application at this time and that it may be worth having a Novak base fit and filed by a gunsmith if I'm interested in pursuing this any further. Thought I'd update for anyone who may be following or interested.

I question if that would even work. These have enough trouble running as is and upsetting the balance with another hunk of weight seems unlikely to run with out some corresponding reduction elsewhere. “So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.”

Good point hrcjon.... just the title of this post got me interested since I just bought a 22 conversion for my P226... I bet you are right.... the slide for these is very light... aluminum I'm sure with a very light spring... Now that I think about it maybe the way to find out would be to get the weight of a red dot and put that much on the top back of the slide and see what happens...? Agreed. Even a good conversion unit is working in a very narrow range of reliability. We're lucky they work at all. I did quite a bit of amateur gunsmithing to get my P226 conversion reliable. Mainly in the extractor and extractor slot areas. Very finicky. I think the odds are against you when attempting to add an optic to the slide. OP, if you have some spare money and want to attempt it, I'd be interested in how it works out. I have the P226 conversion and have had two Ciener 1911 conversions. My gut says the extra weight and changes to the cycling would likely be problematic. ______________________ An expert is one who knows more and more about less and less until he knows absolutely everything about nothing. --Nicholas Murray Butler

As far as 1911s go, that's why I like the Nelson kit. The top is fixed and doesn't move when the slide cycles. Not only that, but for a little extra they will do a custom cut for whatever sight you're wanting to mount. https://www.nelsoncustomguns.c...=product_detail&p=22 They don't have a kit for SIGs, though. And they ain't cheap.

If your heart is set on doing this to the 22 kit that SIG sold, like others here I do not believe end results will fare well. If you sell off your conversion kit and add a hundred dollars or so, you can buy a SIG P322. The P322 is Optics ready and very reliable. I put a Romeo Zero on mine The pistol ships with 2 flush fit 20 round magazines and the Factory also offers 25 round mags for it. Mine has fed and fired everything even when using assorted subsonic with the can I am keeping my P220 22 kit, but I will not mount an optic on the slide ------------------------------------------------------------------ NRA Benefactor . . . You guys have me really th I nuking now. I recently read up on homemade optic mounts for the Keltec p17 22. The speculation was that the optic would have to be super light so as not to change slide velocity. And boy does that Keltec slide smack of pot metal. But that little 22 runs so I won't alter it. Keltec offers a OR slide for it but at 200 bucks it costs as much as an entire new gun. One thing is for sure, I'll take the least expensive means to attempt the optic on the Sig conversion slide. So far that guns hasn't needed any tuning or tinkering as seems to be the problem with some of these finicky 22s.
