I finally pulled the trigger last week and got the base model Ruger Mark IV. I’ve been looking forward to this gun for some time now. I only had the 2 mags it came with as I have not procured others yet. I put about 200 rounds through it with zero jams. I like it but still favor my P322 despite it jamming a handful of times over 400 rounds. I’m not dissatisfied, I just thought I would like it more. It will be a fun pinker.

Congrats on the new plinker! The Mark IV platform offers lots of customization options — check out TandemKross. Rugers are pretty great out of the box, but it’s fun to make it your own.

I currently have 2 Ruger MKIV pistols. They are both the stainless 5.5"target models. One has the threaded barrel and the other does not. I have had both equipped with Volquartsen accurizing kits. I very recently put a Trijicon RMR on the threaded version. I think they are hard to beat for an all-around package.....Accuracy, durability, and ease of use and maintenance.

Give it some time, you might find that it grows on you.

I will say that I have a S&W M&P 22 Comact that I think is more fun than the Rugers. It is just so light and ergonomic that I gravitate towards it a little more when it comes to plinking. However, if accuracy is what I need it is going to be one of my Rugers every time.

If push came to shove, I would keep one of the Rugers over the M&P.

I had a 322. It was fine. Mags were finicky to load but it shot well if you took the time to make sure the rims were staggered. It felt cheap to me so I sold it here. I always assumed vtail liked it but it wasn’t my cup o tea.

The Rugers just work. They aren’t exciting but they go bang, are accurate, and they are fun to modify. There are a million parts out there to “make” it yours.

I have both a Sig P322 and a Ruger Mark IV. When heading out to do some plinking, 9 out of 10 times I grab the Ruger.

I just picked one up as a suppressor host. It's been absolutely flawless.

I have an original Ruger MK from 1965 that I literally have had my whole life. It's the one that everyone has trouble reassembling.

This new version is completely reengineered to disassemble with the push of a button.

The Ruger Mk Series are a great, reliable target pistol. I like them because it gives me a way to practice fundamentals with cheap rimfire ammo without having to deal with a constant stream of malfunctions that I seem to get with every other .22 auto handgun on the market. They're also built solid, so it feels like a real gun in the hand and not some kind of toy.

What they are not is a tactical trainer. If you're looking for something to match the ergonomics and manual of arms of your high-speed-low-drag USPSA or duty pistol, this ain't it.

I have a MkII Target and a MkIV tactical with a red dot and a can. The MkII was fantastic out of the box...excellent trigger and Uber reliable. I could put a whole 500 round box of cheap bulk pack through it in a single range session without a single malfunction. Which if you know anything about .22LR ammo is nothing short of miraculous. Yes it's more complicated to take apart, but once you know how to do it it's easy.

The MkIV had some reliability issues out of the box, and the trigger was nowhere near as good as the MkII. A new Volquartsen hammer, trigger, trigger bar, and firing pin fixed all that. It'll now typically get through about 200 rounds suppressed before it starts to have trouble.

One could almost say that the Ruger MK series are the AK-47s of the rim fire world, but the trouble is they are also as accurate as German trains are punctual.

I've probably picked up a Mk series pistol and looked at it a thousand times over the last 50+ years I was old enough to buy one. Never pulled the trigger on a purchase and I have no explanation why not. Confused

Congratulations!

I keep telling myself I have Buckmarks and don’t need another .22LR pistol platform…$299 is very tempting!

I am glad people are really happy with the MK IV Ruger!

I was tempted to buy one once they got on the California Roster of Approved Handguns, but I couldn't justify it.

I have a MK II Govt Target and a 22/45 [MK II], as well as a handful of other .22 handguns.

If I weren't already 'set' with those, I'd jump on the MK IV- all the strengths of the MK II/III, but with the advantage of a simpler take-down system!

I have a couple of Mk II's but nothing newer. I've been looking at the Mk IV for a suppressor host and the PSA deal about got me today. I'm in the middle of some other things, so I didn't pull the trigger. But I can get them all day long for $329 locally.

Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

In the past I heard guys saying the MK II was the best of the variants. Notwithstanding the difficulty of breaking it down, is there anything else about the Mk II that makes it better, or worse, than these newest variations? Or is ease of takedown the most salient feature of the Mk IV compared to earlier variants ?

I have 2 of the MKIII 22-/45s, took out the mag safety and replaced them with a few washers as bushings to make it much easier to take apart and reassemble. Replaced the steel barrel assembly with PAC-LITE uppers, before Ruger began offering AL uppers.

The mkIV is everything I did to update and make the gun easier.

I’d buy one today-but I have 2 of the others.

I think I know how you feel. The slide is different and they just look odd.pretty smooth shooter and as always, more accurate than I can shoot them. This may be the first pistol I tinker with. I may add a red dot.

I have a 22/45 that I love to shoot. Its accurate and reliable, but like I’ve said many times before, I hope the SOB who designed the assembly/disassembly of this pistol is doing time somewhere near the bottom of hades.

What's wrong with the one button dissassembly?

I can strip and reassemble a MKI in a matter of seconds. It's easy f you follow the simple order of operations.
