Very nice firearms. The first one looks a lot like the one I gave my daughter last year. That would be a safe queen for me.
The other is still in great shape; forgo the funky sights. I'd make a shooter out of that one.
I'm a big fan of classic Sigs and classic Glocks..

SIG DE has attempted the polymer P228 years ago, but unfortunately, it never came to fruition. They had a prototype/test sample, but apparently the poly material was weak at certain spot (the mag catch) and it broke. So, it clearly is doable. A friend, who traveled frequently to Germany and did a lot of business with SIG DE when they still operated, showed me the pic of this poly P228.

I bought a fantastic Mitch Rosen holster for my 229 from a member here, and it carries very nicely, weighty as it is, under a jacket. Too big for summer carry with my skinny physique. I'll have to look for a 228 around here to try, since the 228 is a bit lighter already, just not as light as a G-19.

I'd always used Ted Blockers but this time around I am considering some sort of Kydex. BTW -- my receipt from my first Ted Blocker holster shows $45 back in 1996. Now they're !160!

Does anyone know the date (Date Code) where they started using MIM in Sigs? The hammer on the older one is obviously purple, so it should be machined. But the other is dead black, so I'm wondering about it.

My 229 was apparently bought as a police turn-in by the SF member who had it before me, and it shows extensive finish wear which I think may have been caused by Kydex duty holsters. I'd get the opinion of others here before drawing a conclusion, but personally, I'll use leather for my Sig and Kydex for my Glocks.

One rather unimportant difference that I've noted in coming back to Sig, that has nonetheless been a fun "Easter-Egg" of joy to me, is the metallic feel and sound of sliding in a proper phosphate magazine into an aluminum mag well, rather than a plastic magazine into a plastic mag well.. It's obviously immaterial to function (pun), but it's just something I'd sensed, and I kind of dig.

Always good to see German and West German 228s. While those goofy sights hurt my eyes, I'd still have made that deal.

Thanks guys! When I was approached with the opportunity, I debated just getting one, but I felt it would be helpful to the person selling them if I just took them both to help their situation. At the time, I perceived one to be in really good shape, and one was a fair amount the lesser. But now, with them cleaned up, and the sights changed, and with more time to absorb them as they are -- I think that one is nearly perfect, and the other is in really excellent condition.
My striker to hammer conversion is nearly complete. And it's Sooo good to be back to the MOA of the classic Sig P series. I started with Sig Ps and HK P7s. I love the mechanical feel and experience of them.

I had many years of nothing but Sigs in the 2000s, DA/SA and DAK. It faded a bit with my venture into the XD series, and then I replaced the XDs with Glocks. That started my Glock fan boy era, which is still ongoing. For years, the only Sigs I owned were a safe queen WG P226 and WG P228, with a 6-month stint with a P365XL that I sold.
But surprisingly, I've purchased 2 more WG Sigs in the last 45 days, a DAO P226 and a P228. Your recent threads seemed to have an influence on that decision. I thank you for that.

If you don't like kydex. Don Hume holsters sells a holster like the Ted Blocker for less than 50.00

That's a seriously impressive price if all things are equal. Which makes me wonder WTF isn't equal (if anything)? I have of course heard of Don Hume holsters. Very tempting to buy just to see.

I have several, for my PPK, G-19, Springfield XD-SC. They work well, although for me I prefer the FBI-Cant for the Glock.
