My local fun store has a Ruger MKIV threaded barrel that is identical to this one pictured below except it is blued.



The price is decent and I am very tempted. Any reason not to pull the trigger?

I have a MKII that I adore but I really like all the additional safety features (believe it or not). This is the pistol I think I want to use to teach my son how to shoot on so the safety stuff doesn’t bother me. Is it a good choice?

It looks like a good choice. I like the mag release and the easy take-down, just don't care for the mag disconnect.

This is an excellent pistol because it's a Ruger. I have many (MKI, MKII, MKIII, MKIV) in target (shown) and tapered barrel.

You say you want to teach your son with this pistol (MKIV Target). First, the target model is heavier than the tapered barrel due to the "bull" barrel. I don't know how old your son is or how fit (strenghtwise) he is. That is a factor!

Secondly, the factory trigger is a heavy pull, probably 5-7 lbs. Can your son handle that without getting discouraged?

On a good note, the MKIVs have been redesigned so that the field stripping is very easy for cleaning.

As an experienced firearms instructor, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Ruger. Just be aware of the issues I mentioned!

Zero reasons not to buy one. They accurate and easy to clean. I'm not sure how old your son is, but my seven year old daughter has no problems witht the stock trigger.

I was able to find one locally. That lead to wanting a few custom parts.

After a few trips to the Volquartsen website, it was my go-to 22.

Then I found out they 'made' one in 17mach2. If you ordered all the parts, it came fully assembled.

They are great guns. I had a MKIII which I traded for a MKIV threaded barrel and I couldn’t be happier. I mainly wanted a suppressor host, but the easier takedown was a huge bonus.

I don't have that one, but I did pick up a MKIV in 22/45 a couple of weeks ago.

I also have a MKIII Target that I threaded the barrel on. It has been a wonderful pistol and has killed countless varmints. A few weeks back, I had a issue with it and took it into my local gunsmith. Even he was so flustered taking the damn thing apart and putting it back together that he told me (half-jokingly), don't ever bring that thing back here for anything. That prompted the MKIV purchase as the disassembly is super simple.

So far I'm liking it. I put a Vortex Venom and a suppressor on it and it's every bit as accurate as the MKIII. Always nice to have another varmint killer in the stable.

Go for it! You'll really enjoy it.

I've got a MKIV that I shoot all the time. Great gun and best of all...it field strips in 3 or 4 seconds.

Do it. I love mine, and my half assed reason was that it was for training with my Holosun. Very happy with it.

I have a MKIV 22/45 as I prefer the grip shape.

It's awesome. It got even better with a Volquartsen trigger kit, but that does eliminate the magazine disconnect. I also added a C-More Red Dot sight. Too much fun.

I'd say buy it!

They are awesome pistols. I had planned on upgrading my MKIII to an MKIV, but earlier this year a member here gifted me a Volquartsen upper for my MKIII, so I'll stick with it.

The MKIV Target is a lot of fun. Easily disassembled. Easy to put a dot on. Lots of upgrades available.

I've got a Mark IV 22/45 Tactical. Quite fond of it. You can say that disassembly on the older guns "isn't a big deal", abc then you take the Mark IV apart and understand. Everything else about it is classic Ruger .22.

Do it. I'm a big .22 fan and the Rugers are great. I just picked up a MKIV Target 10" and will be putting a 507k on it. The threaded is my next one.

Buy it. Shoot it.
