Finally picked up a big bore revolver... Login/Join

I've shot for a long time, but never had a big bore handgun. I decided a while back that was something that I needed to change. I initially planned to go with the 629 Mountain Gun, but none of the local shops have had one show up that wasn't already sold. With the lingering QC questions and not finding one to look over in person, I started to consider other options. When Colt released the Anaconda in 45 Colt I was immediately interested. I picked this one up a couple of weeks ago and got it to the range today. Initial impressions were good. Fit and finish are spot on and the trigger is really nice as well. I only put 40 rounds through it for a rough function/accuracy check this morning and plan to do more thorough accuracy/ammo testing soon. The factory finger groove grips weren't my favorite, but they were replaced with an old set of Pachmayr Presentation grips. I also swapped the front and rear sights over to Wilson Combat to match what I have on my Python.

I had zero experience with 45 Colt prior to today, but it was fun to shoot. It didn't recoil nearly as much as 44, but still rang the steel with authority. I'm looking forward to putting some more rounds through this.

That’s a nice piece right there! Hard not to think of the 44 mag when talking about the anaconda though the 45LC would be a fun round in that platform. I have those grips on my Ruger Redhawk and they are more comfortable to me than the stock finger grooved grips as the back strap is covered.

Buffalo Bore makes special 45C ammo for wildlife. Ensure the snake is rated for the ballistics and don’t use ruger only loads.

Very nice! .45 Colt is an excellent cartridge, and its only downfall is the shortage of platforms chambered in it. I didn't even know that you could get an Anaconda in .45...now I have something else to want, lol.

Very nice, and I'm glad to hear that you like the way it's put together. Waiting on the blued 6" version to become available, myself.

That’s an awesome looking pistol. I wasn’t aware that they were offered in .45lc. I wish that I could shoot my .45 more often, but at nearly a dollar a round, it doesn’t happen very often.

45 Colt is one of my favorite rounds to shoot. If one plans to shoot a lot, then reloading is the answer. It is an easy round to reload, and you have a nice range of power to choose from.

That’s a good looking piece you have there.

Yes, the 45 Colt is a fun cartridge. I have a classic Smith 25-5 that gets warmed up every now and then. Someday a model 94 lever action in 45 Colt will be in the stall…

Two separate members on another forum each posted that they had checked with Buffalo Bore and the new Anaconda was able to handle any of their +P loads. One of them said he had shot Buffalo Bore, Underwood, and Double Tap through his with no issues other than shooting high.

I doubt I'll shoot many (if ANY) of those through mine, but at least it looks like it's a possibility if I wanted to.

Very nice revolver, congrats. I am glad Colt/CZ or whoever is making these again. My new Python is a great shooter but am still getting used to the cylinder release.

With a strong, modern revolver, such as yours, .45 LC is capable of impressive power. Most commercial .45 LC ammunition is loaded on the bottom of the spectrum because the ammunition could be used in very old revolvers.

If you reload, that cartridge can be more powerful than a .44 Mag.

Yep. And at lower pressures.

i have been researching this on and off for a few years now.

I do not hunt or anything like that. But the idea of a soft-led wadcutter in largest-concealable-low-pressure caliber -- seems to be a good idea for low-penetrating, but high-impact self-defense round.

a .45 ACP will not feed a wadcutter, but a 45 LC revolver -- would.

So I have been looking at a something that does not add a cylinder length for .410 (which I would not have a use for), but is still in a carry-able size.

From a new manufactured revolvers, I had only found Charter Arms Pitbull xl
