Colt Second Generation SAA
I just received a 2nd generation Colt SAA that I bought on Gunbroker. It's a 1956 (first year of production) gun in .38 Special with 7.5 inch barrel. It looks great and there are no surprises compared to the pictures, just some light honest wear. Mechanically appears to be great as well, but with the gun at half cock and the loading gate open, the cylinder doesn't rotate freely but indexes at each chamber. While this facilitates loading and unloading, I didn't think these guns were made this way. Does it sound like this gun has been modified and how would that affect the value?

It should not rotate backwards.

It should have safe cock, half cock(load/unload), index and full cock.

4 clicks.

I own a 1957 Colt SAA in 45LC. It/mine will index at each charging hole for loading and unloading, but can be rotated past the index. This is normal.

Perhaps there's helpful info here:

I had a first generation Bisley that shared the symptoms your gun exhibits. I just put up with it on mine, until somebody talked me out of it.

Thanks for the replies; I guess my revolver is completely normal. Now the only thing left to do is shoot it!
