Thanks to one of our fine fellow Sigforum members making me aware of the availability of bare frames I will soon be attempting to piece together a complete (but totally disassembled) 226 non railed frame.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that these frames are manufactured in my beautiful home state of North Carolina and say as much on frame. Cool

Link to Matrix Precision Arms

It looks like I can get many of the parts needed to assemble a frame from the same website. Unfortunately I don’t think I will be able to source all the parts.

Can anyone recommend a good source to acquire all the necessary parts to finish this build?

I picked up a spare folded steel 226 complete slide assembly years ago so if I can find the parts to build up the frame I should have a hell of a unique non railed 226.

Stickman, I haven't looked for 226 parts specifically but I had good luck finding 228 parts on ebay. I would think 226 parts might be easier to find. Also could try gunbroker. Good luck.

Went to a few sites for guns/parts and put in P226, Brownells has a lot of the parts you'd need to build it from springs, Triggers, pins, take down levers. YOu might have to use a couple of sources.

Why not go to Bruce and get the best internals from him, and see what all he can source, might have parts in his inventory to help you build a top rate internal P226

Link Brownells

Midway USA has even more

I just transferred the same frame yesterday. I "built" a "P2296" on a Matrix frame last year.

I already had several some parts on hand, mostly springs. You can get all the parts but if you want factory new parts it won't be cheap, obviously. I have purchased parts from Midway, Midwest Gunworks, Sig Sauer and even occasionally ebay and Osage County Guns. I like the GGI strut system so I'm using that. I used to buy tons of parts from Brownells but they seem to carry a lot fewer than they used to, I hardly ever buy from there now.

Retired228,

I do not see an email in your profile. You might want to add that or reach out to the OP who does have an email in his profile.
If you have anything left after helping the OP, please contact me by email in my profile.

I also have a Matrix frame that is expected for transfer this Sat. It is the P2296 frame which is a P229 slide compatible frame having a P226 grip and magwell.

Thanks

Thanks Joe! Cool

This forum is amazing. I do like the idea of going with some high end/custom parts from Bruce, especially parts that have the potential to improve performance/trigger pull quality.

The slide is the next hardest part to source, so if you have one, you’re over the hump. There are several places that selling cloned small parts these days. As you note, you can get a complete lower kit from Revenant, but just note that those are not Sig parts, but clones. Check gunbroker and you can occasionally get parts kits there as well. Armorycraft and NDZ have a bunch of miscellaneous custom small parts as well. Numrich and Top Gun Supply will have most Sig made small parts.

Barrels are available from BarSto, and are super high quality. Snag some upgraded trigger parts from Gray Guns. Sights and grips are easy to source, customize as you see fit.

I’m in the process of redoing a 226 that started as a .40. Darn, that is a pretty good price for those blemish 226 lowers. Hmmm…

Why is the slide hard to source. Its available in a number of variations direct from SIG. Seems the least of the worries.

I was not aware Sig would sell slides/uppers separately.

Thank you again Joe!!!

Well for fear of mockery I can tell you they do sell uppers. I bought the ZEV version so I could have an optics ready version of my Legion.

They have numerous 226 slides for sale on the we store. Not cheap, but easy.

Yeah, maybe “hard” is the wrong term, but difficult to find an affordable one. Looking at gunbroker last night, there are several slides for $500-$550 (and more if you want optics cuts), yet I can also find complete da/sa guns in .40 for $499. I recently bought an entire .40 da/sa police trade in gun for $400 that was nearly unfired.

So, you can easily find slides, but just not at a price where I’d be buying.

ETA: I should do that, personally, I’m still an iron sights guy, so that’s what I’m looking for. Sig is selling slides, but those seem to all be optics cut slides, for those folks looking to upgrade an existing gun. As far as I’m aware, I don’t think they’re selling non-cut slides, but I could be wrong.

I put some of the parts in my frame today. I started with the hammer stop which is a bit of a challenge then added the magazine catch. I'll finish it tomorrow.

It's the 40th anniversary of the P226 but instead of buying a complete one I'm going to 'build' one.

Not hard at all.

Buy one of these:

Matric Arms P226 Lower Parts Kit

And either wait for a good deal on a slide or complete slide, or buy one from Sig. Osage had that killer deal on MK25 complete slides a couple years ago.

Some really good step by step youtube videos out there too for P-series assembly and disassembly.

10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Two vendors I buy lots of Sig things from including uppers, both complete and separate.

https://lanbosarmory.com/
-a little hard to search, but lots of stuff there.

https://osagecountyguns.com/
-good place for uppers

https://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/home.asp
-lots of stuff, but seems pricey.

https://www.everygunpart.com/
-sell complete or almost complete guns minus the frame.
