I was recently reunited with my P290RS and am curious if anyone has an explanation to what I think I am experiencing with this pistol...

In dry fire, the trigger feels smooth and revolver like...reminds me of an S&W Centennial but with 6+1 of 9MM on deck...

At the range...it seems like the trigger gets heavier as I pull the trigger and makes it a bit more difficult to shoot follow up shots...

I realize this is not my other Classic P Series pistols nor my P365 but I have to think something happens when I load this pistol and actually shoot it on the range...

P290RS dislike from some aside, this P290RS seems like it should occupy a place in rotation as an S&W Centennial snubby or Seecamp LWS in 9MM...

thoughts???...I appreciate any experience or advice you care to share...

Bill

Hello: Sorry, can't really answer your question but I like Sig DAO triggers and tried the 290RS dryfire at a store once and agree it was pretty nice
but never fired it with ammo. The DAK has the opposite issue, it has a rougher two stage dryfire DAO stroke if you do not rack the slide between each "shot". How do you find the 290RS's recoil?

I was able to get mine to the range for a second time since being reunited with it...I am still surprised by how accurate this little pistol is...my first 3 shots were touching each other...

I will say that this little pug in 9mm is very accurate, relatively safe (since it is DAO) to carry in a pocket holster...recoil is not heavy with Speer Gold Dot 124GR standard velocity cartridges...

adding that after shooting about 40 rounds my trigger finger was sore and I don't find this pistol "fun" to shoot but it'll do the job if you need it to...

Mine is pretty nice. The trigger pull is good but I find the distance from the backstrap to the rearward end of the trigger pull to be uncomfortably short. It’s a heavy beast with good sights and small. I like mine. I never had the failure to strike/fire (whatever) issue on mine.

Hi. I had detailed for you some tune-up steps in another thread.

What you are encountering could be caused by a breakage in one of the Pivot pins for the sear or the hammer. You will have to pull out the rear firing control housing and inspect.

My P290 RS is in 380 and it is a certifiable Piece of Shit. The ejection is so week that the only way to empty the magazine is to aim the ejection port straight at the floor. BTW I am set up to reload 380 and I have built loads where the bullet was sitting on a full case of 3N37. Even with a 25% overload on the powder it still jammed if you tried to shoot in normally.

It really is a bit of a shame. Because the trigger is actually a near duplicate of the trigger in a S&W model 19 in double action. One plus for the 380 is the powder capacity is limited and the bullets are a lot lighter, so it is one of the least expensive calibers to load for.

I've stopped counting.

Thanks again skuzbary.

I’ve never had any of those problems with my P290RS Scooter123

I had a 290RS and liked it being a revolver guy.
Smooth trigger, not too heavy overall weight of the gun, but certainly not light.
Then a 365 found it’s way into my life and the 290 faded away.
Now I still like pocket carry in warm weather, so a 938 has surpassed the 365: though I keep that around for when I want more ammo on board.
If you like it, shoot it.
If not, there are plenty of options to explore.
