PSA announced new 5.7 Rock
Link

Palmetto State Armory just hopped on the 5.7x28mm train with the release of their new, affordable 5.7 Rock pistol.

The 5.7x28mm cartridge was invented by FN, as well as the original Five-seveN pistol to go along with it. Ruger joined the party with their own design in 2019, and now Palmetto State Armory has too with the release of the 5.7 Rock pistol.

Because the original FN pistol carries an MSRP of above $1,300, it only makes sense that other companies have been competing to release more economical options for the unique cartridge. Ruger managed to give their model an MSRP of $869, and while much more affordable than FN’s, it still couldn’t be considered a true budget gun. With PSA’s 5.7 Rock having an MSRP of $499.99, it is now the most affordable way to get into the 5.7x28mm cartridge. The ammo is still plenty expensive, but at least there’s finally a more economical gun to shoot it with.

It's nice to see guns they make being affordable but it lacks a bit in the looks department. Hopefully they make ammo next, as that is a main issue like you noted.

The main barrier, for me, is the cost of the ammo designed specifically to function in the the P90 magazine.

The only reason for me to own this caliber is for the Five Seven and PS90 for nostalgia purposes.

I'm glad more companies are wading into this caliber, as it may drive down the cost of the previously mentioned, but what does 5.7 realistically* do that 22 magnum, 223/556, or 9mm doesn't?

*with available civilian ammo, not unobtainable military/LEO available ammo.

I'm with Vgex on all points, and I own a PS90. It's arguably the least useful gun I own. I bought it purely for the novelty of it, and I've put exactly twelve rounds through it purely because of the ammo situation. I bought it about nine months before Covid, and we all know what happened.

I'm all for new offerings in this caliber in the hopes that more ammo will be available, and hopefully get back to something even approaching affordable to shoot. I just don't see it happening, though. If anyone can show me that the Ruger pistol coming to market accomplished anything other than more competition for the same pool of available ammo, I'll listen, but my gut tells me what's exactly what happened. Even American Eagle is a buck a round and I remember when paying sixty cents a round about a year ago for it seemed absolutely absurd.

Not a bad looking gun, in a slinky CZ P-10F sort of way.

A cheap 5.7 pistol will only drive up demand for the already hard to find ammo. Unless FN tells Fiocchi USA--the one on this side of the Atlantic who actually produces the civilian loads--to really start ramping up production, 5.7x38 @ $1/rd will be around for a LONG time to come.

PSA is actually building an ammo factory to produce 5.7x28 and American made steel case 7.62x39 and 5.45x39.
