Ok, ok, ok. After resisting the P320 for years and calling it a dud, a paper weight, and every other name in the book (I'm a bonafide Glock fanboy), I saw a P320 X-VTAC R2 in the glass case. Marked at $780, I took it home for $699 after minimal haggling.

This pistol here:

Pretty sweet gun, nice trigger. Flat face trigger SEEMS a little light for a duty style pistol to me... like 4ish pounds, maybe lighter in FEEL (probably heavier on a gauge)

I figure with the military going to the P320, the chassis system, its highly likely that these pistols will be HUGE in the future with a massive aftermarket and more. I can imagine that PCC chassis will be built that can use the drop in stainless chassis "frame" at some point.

What's the best optic to put on this? What fits under the removeable optics plate? It says R2 on the case, so I "think" this is a newer generation from the older VTAC pistols.

My understanding is that the VTAC R2 will only take the Sig Romeo 1 PRO or Leupold DPP without any mods to the slide cut.

The R2 is setup for the DPP footprint, but also typically has the holes for a RMR. You can run an RMR, Acro, or just about any other optic with an adapter plate. Bobro makes a nice plate to run and RMR or Holosun.

This should be correct. The move to a dovetailed rear sight was another positive change. A plate would still be advisable with an RMR as it will provide some lateral stability since the optic is smaller than the milled area. Plates for slides like this (where the screw holes exist on the slide already) are pretty thin.

The BoBro P320 RMR adapter plate has the rear sight built into the adapter plate and will not work with the R2 VTAC slide, since the R2 slide uses a separate rear dovetail cut rear sight.
