I had a surplus P6 a number of years ago when they where dirt cheap and was able to get a used P225 barrel so it would feed hollow points with out any issues. Back then I only used 147gr hollow points. I found a very nice condition 1980 made P6 for a fair price and want one again. Will 115gr hollow points feed OK?

It might or might not. But, they did make a change to the P6 feed ramp in 1989 to better accommodate the HP ammo.

I was trying to recall what year they changed it. Well, I might get this and try. If nothing else I can buy a new barrel from EFK.

I have a 81 P6 and a 83 P225 (the first year of commercial production) and they feed anything that I can get a hold of. I have NEVER had a problem. It is VERY gun dependent.

As recommended here a few years ago, if you have problems try Federal 9 BP hollow points. The bullet nose is more rounded and the cavity is smaller.


My 1982 P6 likes them.

I agree with sig operator. Whether a P6 will feed a particular hollow point cartridge is more dependent on the shape of the bullet and less on its weight. The rounder the bullet, the more likely the round will feed. The more truncated the bullet, the less likely.

Thanks guys. I only use Federal or Speer HP ammo. This P6 is in wonderful shape with very little holster wear. Going to pick it up.

I also have a 1980 model and recently tried Remington Golden Saber 147gr HP's. No problem.

No need for a new barrel. I had mine polished and it has worked fine since. That must have been 20 years ago and I don't remember now who did it. However, a lot of people from here used the same shop.

I have P225 "Montage Suisse" from pre 1980.
Shoots hollow points without problem.

It ought to shoot Federal 9 BPLE 115s. I have two. they also shoot fedaral 124 gr. HST

Picked it up on Friday. Hard to believe I bought one when they first started to be imported for far less then what they are going for today. I suspect that this one was a deactivated training gun that was reactivated. Grips had been painted red at one time and the barrel looks to be a replacement. It came with one Walther P38 mag that has been modified. Will shoot it tomorrow.
