P226 barrel issue (corrosion?)
Hey there!
What is the best way to clean the chrome-lined barrel of P226 MK25 pistol?
Looks like my barrel has some issue. I bought it “almost new, only 200 shots of FMJ factory loads fired”, but it has some ring shaped mark inside the barrel (1 inch from the muzzle). What can it be? Is it removable?

Hey there. Welcome!

Since you bought the bbl used could it possibly had a squib?

Did you notice the ring before shooting?

At the area of the ring do you notice any swelling of the bbl? Can you mic the outside of the bbl.

Our new friend is from Poland, so, English is not his first language.

Let's extend to him patience and courtesy and see if we can provide him with answers.

Do you think you can get a photo of it? Shine a light from the chamber end and aim a camera from the muzzle. Getting the proper focus can be challenging.

Also, welcome to the forum!

Looks like lead buildup from a squib to me also.

Use a bronze brush in the barrel.

Dzień dobry - Jeśli nie możesz zdobyć szczotki z brązu, możesz spróbować szczotki nylonowej. Hopes9 to świetny rozpuszczalnik do użycia, a nawet CLP. Powodzenia i daj nam znać, jak poszło. My usual method for cleaning a barrel like that is to put it into a container of the old style Hoppe’s #9 cleaning solvent (not the clear “Elite” cleaner) and let it soak for a few days. Any firing residues can then usually be removed with nothing more than a cloth patch on a tight jag.

A caution, though:

Prolonged immersion soaking in Hoppe’s #9 can cause problems with nickel plating on firearms. The reason is that nickel is/was usually plated on top of copper plating that’s laid down first on the base steel. Any slight imperfection in the nickel would allow the solvent to attack the underlying copper, and that would then loosen the nickel.

Does that apply to modern chrome plating of the sort used in some SIG barrels? I don’t know, but unless I could find out for certain, I would be cautious about leaving a chrome-plated barrel in prolonged contact with any solvent that could attack copper.

I'm fairly certain that was sarcasm and highly doubt you offended anyone.

Copper or lead reside from a Squib round. Keep shooting with copper jacketed rounds and it will self correct.

And welcome to the Sig Forums.

Thanks everyone, you guys are hilarious (in a good meaning, of course))))
UPD: no success so far, this „ring” is still there - I’ve tried so hard, but I only have 2 types of barrel foams, and need to invest in smth else. Keep in mind we don’t have some of the detergents you’ve already mentioned in this thread. My last hope is „JB Bore Paste” (mentioned by someone on the internet - it’s slightly abrasive and may (probably) help. And the only store selling it is closed for Christmas holidays till January 3…

I was able to check out JB Bore Paste and remember it going well.

The red label compound is supposed to clean out what the blue compound and other bore cleaners weren't able to.

Let us know how it turns out.
