New M&P- light primer strikes Login/Join

I recently bought a new M&P 2.0 compact and have fired 300 rounds of factory new ammo. I have had 3 light primer strikes- two with Magtech 124gr and one with Browning 124 grain. (All three of these rounds fired when I put them through my Glock.)

Should I be concerned? I’m considering making this my carry pistol, but I’m bothered by the light primer strikes.

I did fire a magazine of 124gr HST (my preferred carry load) and there were no issues…

Thoughts?

Hard to say with so little but still significant sample size.
I wouldn't carry it until you are 100% confident of reliability.
Could be just the ammo though.

Magtech ammo is known for primer problems and "light strikes", not all of the time but some batches I had issues with on a couple guns,Glock included. I have a few M&P pistols and never had a problem other than with Magtech.

That's concerning. I wouldn't carry it until you figure out what's going on. Is it factory or have you done anything to the trigger assembly? Maybe check the striker and striker channel for debris or burrs?

I've shot a lot of Magtech through P320s and Glocks and not had any problems, but it's been a couple of years and who knows these days with the supply issues what you're going to get.

Shoot more, and with various ammo. If it never happens again, then chalk it up to the gremlin and carry on. If it keeps happening, then it's the gun's fault. Obviously, don't carry the gun, until you figure out what the problem is. I once had a brand new P225-A1 that kept giving intermittent LPSs across all the ammo I put in it. Sent it back to SIG, and it was the defective firing pin.

Oil or dirt in the striker assembly/channel can cause light strikes.

You can check for this yourself or send back to Smith and Wesson.

100% stock, and purchased brand new.

I’ll check the striker channel and see if there is any debris.

Thank y’all!
