I've got a couple. Still don't know the difference in speed/service/security six. ----------------------------------------- Roll Tide! Glock Certified Armorer NRA Certified Firearms Instructor

To all of you who are serving or have served our country, Thank You |
I'm a fan of the Security Six had at least a half dozen of them over the years. Down to two 357s now a 4" and 2 3/4" both blue. I think the fact that they don't have the full under lug is a big plus in the weight of them. Have just enough weight to make them effective.

Rule #1: Use enough gun |
Security Six: Adj sights, square butt, 2.75", 4", 6"bbls Service Six: Fixed sights, square butt, 2.75, 4" bbls Speed Six: Fixed sights, round butt, 2.75" bbl (also available in 9mm) There may have been a few more bbl variations, but those are the most common. Here's a good pic from page 1:

I used to own every Security Six made. Although the triggers sucked compared to S&W, and Colts, they were very accurate. I don't remember what year it was, but, I remember selling my last stainless for $150

Ignored facts still exist |
I guess we could get into the old cast vs. forged debates on revolvers. Ruger = Cast S&W = Forged Not that it matters much for 99% of the population, but cast must be heavier to achieve the same strength. Therefore, it feels "beefier." .

There was also a 4" Speed Six. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

I had a 4" Speed Six in .357. I liked it well enough but even with much reduced hand loads ( 158 gr. @ 1000 FPS ) recoil was fairly stout, significantly more than that same bullet @ 1150 FPS from a 4 " GP 100.

Yes sir. Sure do love mine. Made in 1982, and super clean. Almost sold it recently. Glad I came to my senses.

A thing of beauty! I have one just like it from the mid-80's.

I guess I'm a fan now. Already have a GP100 and SP-101. I couldn't resist a 1982 service-six and doing my part for gun control on 3/24

I had a 4" blued version Security 6 with a stainless trigger and hammer like the ones above this post. One of my favorite pistols that I have always regretted selling. I could tear up the chest area at 50 yards. Thanks for reminding me of another one of my youthful mistakes.

I have a 4in Stain and also a new Speed Six Govt gun new in the box with all papers and GI manual , The PA State Police had the Ruger in a dull looking stainless for a few years . I never run into one for sale .

There's a good reason that handloading books publish "ruger-only" loads. There are no s&w-only loads.
