So I was out shooting to for the first time in a while.

Gah it wasn’t my best showing and I was shooting fast. We will call it a money into noise day but I did have a dude ask me how I learned to shoot so well.....so maybe just crappy for me, but I digess.

Anyhoo One of the guns I brought my PC627 revolver. I ran 50 rounds of .357 fast and was working on reloads from speed loaders so basically cylinder dump, drop 8 more in, rinse repeat.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Yes you can get an HK P7 hot in 50-100 rounds ( I have an M8 and M13) but if you dump 50 rounds of .357 magnum in a short time you can get a revolver blazing.

It’s been awhile since I have done this.....I should have brought bacon. Smile

Same thing when I shot my HB S&W Model 10 in USPSA. Would burn fingers while doing a speed reload.

I went tot the range a week or so back with my 627 PC and 625. 180 rounds out of the 627 and 140 out of the 625. They were still very warm to the touch when i got home.

while the p7 heat ups. The hottest, burn your finger, blister your finger i have yet exp is the HK m23 when you get about 100 rounds through it one after another.

50 fast rounds thru a j-frame heats up, too. I used to set 3 on the bench when shooting, rotate when hot. An aluminum j-frame will get hot enough to malfunction.

Back when my department carried wheel guns we qualified with S&W M66 357 magnum revolvers with 125 grain Federal HP ammo. We had to fire 200 rounds qualification twice a year. The course of fire was 60 rounds day fire and 40 rounds of night fire. One practice round and one for the record. That stainless steel cylinder was too hot to touch by the end. The guns also started going out of time after a few years of that hence our switch to S&W M659 9mm pistols.

It's not just handguns. Last Thursday afternoon I was shooting .327 Federal through my Henry Big Boy and kept having to leave it on the rest with the action open for several minutes at a time, as the first third of the barrel got so hot I couldn't leave my hand on it. I was by no means shooting rapid fire, either.

No matter what the problem, bacon is usually a good solution! Cool

Funny, I normally take 2-3 ARs when training, then switch out several times as needed!
