I have a Gen3 17L, I think this one is well done for the nostalgia it brings.

My understanding is that all of the "Gen1" G19's were prototypes, with a VERY tiny handful inadvertently making it out to the commercial market, as in we're talking the equivalent of two hands with fingers left over, levels of numbers. I believe I heard those numbers were around 5 or 6 guns, maybe. To put it in perspective The availability of the G19 RTF2 with the fish scale serrations put out between 2009 and 2010, dwarfs the production of any "Gen1" G19 prototype, by several orders of magnitude, if you'll forgive the hyperbole.

The G19 introduced in 1988, was essentially the beginning of Gen2 Glocks, so in reality if you purchase an early production Gen2 G19, you're essentially purchasing a "Gen1" variant. A few weeks ago I was in GT Distributors in Dallas, and they had a pair of of EXCELLENT condition GEN2 G19's, that by the serial numbers put them in production around 1990 and 1991 respectively. And my recollection was they were selling at a normal used gun price.

According to the Glock Collectors Association (didn't know there was such a thing until a few months ago), roughly 56 or so Gen1 G19s were made in total. The first few units were nothing much more than G17s that had been crudely cut down to the familiar G19 size, made by request for evaluation by the Kansas Alcoholic Beverage Control. It had been reported by a variety of gun and internet sources over the decades that approximately 24 to 29 of these were supplied to the KABC, an unknown number of which have subsequently found their way into private hands. As for the remainder of the 56 or so...who knows for sure where these ended up but at least some probably found their way into Austrian military hands to garner possible interest from the original customer of the Glock 17, and to other agencies who might prefer a compact design over the full size G17.

I’ll stick with my Gen 3 34.
Reissued hybrid gen 17l just doesn’t cut it me thinks.
