Has anyone tried bore sighting a P365 by removing the striker assembly and looking through the firing pin hole in the breechface? I was thinking that you could use an endoscope/borescope or perhaps using a fiber optic pressed up against the firing pin hole in the breechface. I would imagine that it would be like looking through a peepsight.

Even if you could, it would serve no purpose. Maybe for initial adjustment of an optical sight, but there are easier ways to do it, and even then you still have to actually shoot the gun to "fine tune" it. A light beam travels in a straight line, but a bullet travels in a parabolic arc. With iron sights there would always be a discrepancy between the centerline of the bore and the height of the sights above the bore.

There's more to sighting a gun than looking down the bore.

How you pull through the trigger will effect the final point of impact.

The why is because I'm going to replace the sights on my P365 and P365XL with a different brand of fixed iron sights.

With fixed iron sights you need to get the lateral adjustment correct on BOTH the front and rear sights so that it will shoot true laterally at all distances.

If either sight is not dead on center with the centerline of the bore of the barrel, if you adjust the other sight to laterally center the POI, the POI will NOT be the same at any other distance.

With fixed iron sights you get what you get vertically. The ammunition will affect the vertical trajectory and at which two distances the POA will be the same as the POI. Every time you change ammunition you need to resight your pistol.

As already mention there's really no need to bore sight a 9mm pistol as there is with a rifle. But if you want to do it for shits and grins maybe this sort of thing will help,

I bought one of those for a friend of mine.
It gets you close. But doesn't take in account for movement of sear disconnect and striker hit etc...

,

I've looked at the LASER bore sighters but I've seen way too many reports from people that have had problems with them.

Seems like someone is majorly overthinking things...for a defensive carry pistol.

For $17 I wouldn't sweat it. If it works that's fine, if not you've got a laser pointer.

Such a thing is simply not needed on a defensive handgun at all.

1) Center the sights in the dovetail, to the best of your ability.

2) Shoot it, several groups, perhaps even using a rest for stability if you want.

3) Adjust windage, if needed, once you're absolutely sure you've ruled out improper grip/trigger input as a cause of any lateral deviation of your groups.

This is how you "sight in" a handgun. Boresighting a handgun isn't a thing.

And no, there's no need to re-sight your handgun every time you change to a different bullet weight/type/brand. Any vertical POI changes between loads will be minimal-to-none at handgun distances.

You're overthinking this. Wink

I don't buy that. True, 9mm Luger ammunition does come in a variety of bullet weights and pressures/velocities, but the difference between those and in POI just isn't that great. Even if POI changes by, say, a couple of inches at 50 yards, that is still plenty of accuracy to get a center of mass hit.

Plus the 356 is a close quarter defense gun, not a target gun. Go get a P210 if you want target accuracy. If you want to shoot a bad guy, at 7-10 yards with a gun you can easily carry, the look to the 365, Glock 43, Shield and others. You'll get 2-3 inch groups at 7-10 yards coming out of a holster if you practice enough.

I bought one of those laser bore sighters on Amazon to get my Holosun close (365xl).
The sight needed two clicks up in actual firing, fine side to side.
Not bad for under $20. Saved that much in ammo and the next time it’ll be free.

Does it shoot accurately as is?

Put tape next to each sight. Mark the tape where the notch and post are respectively. Push out sights, push new ones in. Verify. Nudge as necessary.

I’ve mounted 2 507k’s and just by tightening them down I was easily on the paper at 15 yards. By on the paper I mean like 6 inches from the center. Bore sighting wouldn’t have saved me anything because I can convert 6 inches at 15 yards into clicks fairly easily. Can’t imagine worrying about this.
