The discussion in another thread got me wondering about pocket carry techniques employed by the membership. I figured a quick poll might help to clarify the issue. Feel free to comment with details and/or photos of your setup as well.

I haven't in quite a while, but when I was pocket carrying my P11, it was in a kydex/leather hybrid. Came with a pretty large square of leather that I trimmed bit by bit until I got it to sit how I wanted & not print to crazily. The Enemy's gate is down.

Pocket carry with smaller guns is done with A PJs Holster Kydex. Only time I dont use a holster is with my motorcycle vest and then its with a trigger guard sheath in place on my G43. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

FWIW here is my setup...J-Frame in a Galco leather holster. I will admit to dropping the 329PD naked into a pocket (big pockets!) around camp when I was hiking in Alaska because I was sick of carrying a bag and was just lounging around the fire, but it's not something I would do while engaged in any kind of activity. ![]()

I like those, too, and have played with them some. I've always found them to be especially useful in a situation where you can tie them off to something so they pop off on the draw. That's probably what I'd do if I was going to vest carry or carry a striker-fired auto on my HPG kit bag. But now you've got me wondering if I couldn't make one with a tab/hook on it to catch on the side of a pocket on the draw and slide off as the gun comes out. Kind of an ultra-minimalist pocket setup...I'm gonna have to try this.

Always use a holster. Always cover that trigger no matter what, I don’t care if it’s a 100 lb pull. They also help keep the gun oriented firmly in the right position, you don’t want to be reaching in your pocket when you need it and the grip is not in the right position and the muzzle is pointing at your nuts.

When pocket-carrying, I always use a holster. For a S&W J-frame, it’s either this well-travelled model from JW O’Rourke (bought that one new from his table at a gun show several years back) or a more recently-crafted one from Ryan Grizzle. ![]() "The sea was angry that day, my friends - like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli." - George Costanza

For me, the J frame can just be dropped into the pocket. Everything else gets a holster.

To answer the question, the answer would be yes, even though it was almost never. Also, I would cargo pocket carry, or coat pocket carry, which I think of more as "having a gun with me" rather than "carry" if you follow my meaning. For that I used a minimalist kydex trigger guard cover. (now that I can 100% legally carry, instead of not "technically a crime" but would have been very bad if I were caught, I use real holsters in the right places. ![]()

Yes. Always. Started out using a 642 in a Mika holster as a BUG on duty. Then a Kahr PM9 in a DeSantis Superfly. Then a P365 in a Remora holster.

It's hard to bet the 442/642 gun for a great pocket gun. I have a few of them around the house and one for going to the local stop and rob, when I don't want to carry something else and want something convenient.

Always. A pocket holster consistently positions the gun, breaks up the outline to avoid obvious printing, and protects it from debris in the pocket.

Well, I just now realized that autocorrect screwed up my subject line, and now I can't change it without resetting the poll results. Sorry guys, Picket Carry it is. I'm enjoying the responses and gear suggestions, keep them coming!

I have had good luck with the "Sticky Holster" brand and DeSantis, a copy/clone of which comes with the Ruger LCP. The real standout is the Mika. It is well designed, individually custom made down to your name embroidered on the inside, and the service is very personalized. If you decide on it and place the order, don't ignore the phone call from Wisconsin that you'll get a couple of hours later. That's him.

I suggest that you change the thread title from “Picket Carry Poll” to “Pocket Carry Poll”. Makes a lot more sense. Yeah, I have the proof reader gene in both chromosomes. Don’t argue with fools.

The only times I've pocket carried is in cold winter weather. In a zipped up heavy coat I had a S+W 36 with a bobbed hammer in the pocket,no holster. When the coat got unzipped or removed the gun went back into it's belt holster.

ALWAYS use a pocket holster that fully covers the trigger. NEVER put anything into the pocket containing the holstered gun.

I picket carry my Glock 26 in a Remora holster occasionally. I actually added an Ulti clip to it so I can carry my picket holster more securely IWB when I want to. They’re “sticky” enough to stay in place 98.385% of the time, but I did have it come out with the gun at least twice so I added the Ulti and 100% of the time so far it has stayed put. Whether it’s IWB or IPC (In Picket Carry) depends solely on my t shirt. I have some thicker long baggy t shirts that hide all of my IWB (3:30ish) carry. When I wear my thin more form fitting shirts that would print like a mother fucker I just toss it into my picket. ...Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, was just a freight train coming your way...
