Anybody shot or own one of the new Combat Commanders? Curious how they stack up for fit, finish and accuracy versus a S.A., Sig or other mid tier manufacturer.

At Dan Wesson prices, get yourself a Valor.

I bought a new Colt competition s/s 9mm government a little over a year ago. I had to order it sight unseen as the S/S were just released. Some of the workmanship on it is downright impressive. The barrel bushing fit and slide to frame fit are extremely tight and rival my Ed Brown and WC. The grip safety has some side to side play (more than I'd like) and the trigger has some noticeable up and down movement in the frame. The trigger itself is clean and crisp but at touch on the heavier side......4.5-5lbs. The finish is perfect on it. I paid around $865 for it.

I have a lot of 1911's. Personally I'd rather either go for a Colt and understand that's what it is (under $900) or go straight to an Ed Brown. Oddly my Ed Brown is by far my favorite and I rarely shoot the Wilson. I have an S+W I haven't shot in 5 years, I have several Colts that I shoot often. I've never shot a DW, but have heard very good things about them.

Absolutely.

Looks like a Colt Combat Commander will run you ~$900-$1000.

As far as ~$1000 1911s go, there's no reason to go with a Sig/S&W/Colt/SAI/etc when a Dan Wesson is a huge step up in quality for a similar price.

Even if you can't swing the extra couple hundred for a Dan Wesson Valor Commander at ~$1250, Dan Wesson has some slightly less expensive Commander models like the Vigil Commander or the A2 Commander that can be had for right at $1000.

That extra little bit of money over the Colt is well worth it for the enhanced quality of a Dan Wesson.

IIRC, you already have a Dan Wesson V-Bob. wolfe 21. So something like a lightweight Vigil Commander, or a Vigil CCO, would make a nice sidekick to your existing Dan Wesson, for times when you want something that's a bit lighter or smaller.

Colt makes a good $700 1911 if you can get one for around that price. They aren't worth MSRP IMO.

I am currently well stocked in 1911s, cheap to not so cheap. This was a gift idea for someone who prefers Colt to all others(why, I don't know). It's $850 OTD.

Rogue, you remember correctly. I have a V-bob as well as a Specialist and a Valor. They are extremely well made.

Have several older Colts in 45&10mm, a Defender and a Commander. Also a SA and several DWs. Would go DW before another Colt.

Recently had opportunity to shoot and clean new Colt 1911 and I was impressed with quality. I have wonder if this is due to team building of Gen Keys starting with M-4 production.

I bought a new Wiley Clapp LW Commander earlier this year. It has a couple sharp edges, but overall I'm extremely impressed with it (and I own and have owned many high end 1911's).

My co-worker has one of the newer 9mm "Competition" models and it is also extremely well put together.

Get the Ruger Commander and then use the money saved to ship it to The Action Works.
That's what I did.

Funny you mention that. I sent mine off to the Colt Custom Shop for dehorning and replacing that nub of a safety. I should be getting it back today.

I agree with some of the stuff being said, but where does it end. If you say just pay $300 more and get a Wesson why not pay $300 more than that and get a used Ed Brown? I think the Colt Wiley Clapp Commander is a great pistol. And I really enjoy it. But it's not nearly the gun my Ed Brown Commander is. If it was me I would get the Colt or used Brown.

I've had any number of Colt 1911's over the years and this one looks good to me. That said, I do think you pay a premium for the Rampart Pony, on the grips. Rod

Sounds great! Who sells them at that price?

(You can narrow it down further by searching on Gun.Deals using the exact UPC for the specific model/caliber you want.)

TwoGunJay routinely sells Dan Wessons for near cost on Gunbroker too. https://www.gunbroker.com/All/...ize=96&Sort=4&View=1
