My New 3" Python Compared With My 4.25"

Mars_AttacksMy New 3" Python Compared With My 4.25"
Since Colt was acquired by CZ, it seems the new management is actually listening to the customer base and producing products that will sell and turn a profit. Even though I find the effort or lack of, put into the new Cobra series to be lackluster at best and trying to use the name to get these expensive, low cost revolvers out the door, they are trying. Something many other manufacturers are just flailing around just throwing anything out to try to find a profitable good seller.
These heavy framed Pythons might not be the originals, but they are very well made. The fit and finish is very good. I mean the polish on the frame is amazing. Unlike Smith that has chosen to bead blast and paint their latest offerings.
The trigger parts are not MIM like S&W or the Cobra series. They either are machined from solid stock or forged, I can't tell.
It does not feel fragile like the original Pythons, even though the trigger is noticeably heavier. Not enough to make it undesirable, but it feels sturdy, like a L framed Smith. Nowhere near like the K frames of the 50's through 70's, but more than acceptable.
I have shot 4.25 and it groups well. All 6 pulls are identical and it never had a flyer in any cylinder, even with my lead handloads.
The laminated grips are absolutely wonderful. They are smooth and warm. Not cold, inorganic and hard like plastic.
The 3" is balanced. It's not tail heavy in the least bit. It is better than the 4.25 in all reality. I suspect the 6" will be a bit nose heavy and that's why it's not selling as well.
I do not regret either one of these purchases and I gave retail for both.
Goodgoddamm I have some tore up cuticles.

OgieNice!!
I was considering a S&W Model 19 Carry Comp with the 2.5" barrel.
Now I may have to start looking at the 3" Python.

RileyOooh, very nice, thanks! One question , how big are the grips? They seem quite large.

Same size as a set of L frame grips, if not slightly thinner.
I'm hoping Hogue will come out with some aftermarkets soon. They look like Hogue manufacture as it is.

mdblantonVery nice set of revolvers. Thanks for the comparison. I had a 4.25” on my list (over the 6” model) but that decision is now a more difficult choice with the introduction of the 3” model.

VictorLouisThey look gorgeous. I 'might' find myself tempted for the 3"'er. Quite a risk for them considering it can't go to Canada, LOL.

Finally, a new revolver with everything you need and nothing you don't. Regards 18DAI

sprg03-A3Thanks for the info! I own both a 6" and a 4.25" and find them outstanding. Yes, the 6" is a bit nose heavy but not annoyingly so. The 4.25 is very nicely balanced IMHO. BTW..... I believe the grips are made by Altamont.

LincolnSixEchoI held a 3” at my LGS yesterday and I was impressed! Wonder how available these are going to be over the next 1-2 quarters.

They look exactly like their offerings.
There's a set there with a golden horse inlaid that I might get.
I wish they made mother of commode seat for it.

I am not sure what 'mother of commode seat' is

These are my first centerfire revolvers after years of owning pistols, and I love them! I chose the 6" first, assuming it would be preferable for the range. However I find the balance of the shorter pistol makes for a great shooter, especially shooting 38spl. The 3" looks very intriguing.....

TheFrontRangeThose both look great - I’ll admit to some strong bias to the 3” version, that looks perfect.

Mars_AttacksI feel this akin to Charles Vermot at Zenith saving the company by walling off the parts, plans and tooling for their flagship movement away from the bean counters to sell off for scrap and one day the industry demanded the finest watch movements again (Rolex was hunting) the engineer took a hammer to the wall as he was literally days from retirement to reveal the recipe to bring the company back from the brink.

Expert308Never really cared much for snubbie .357's. I am kind of feeling the need to replace my S&W 66 that's on more or less permanent loan to my Dad, and a Python is high on the list of options. I need to decide between the 4" and 6" versions though, leaning a bit more toward the 4". I'm one of those boneheads who had a beautiful deep blued 6" Python back in the `80's and let it go.

HK AgI am guessing that CZ has stated not to remove the tag under penalty of law!
Love that pair of snakes, a 6" is on my list!!
