Just picked this up today. I believe it was unveiled at SHOT Show a couple months ago, but they aren't overly easy to find.

Its honestly the finest pistol I've seen from Smith & Wesson since the old Performance Center shut down. It features all stainless steel construction, a steel magwell, a tuned 3lb aluminum trigger, a threaded on comp, night sights, a fluted barrel, and a purple-blue PVD finish on the accents, which I think looks great. Weight is 42oz with an empty magazine. Price was $1700 OTD, which isn't cheap, but certainly inline with Walther's steel frame PDP Match. While its hard to match the Walther's quality, this M&P comes close and also offers more standard features.

Please enjoy the pics...

They need to take the Red Bull from the machinist.

Nah, it fits the crazy style of many competition pistols these days. They aren’t meant to look classy.

I love classy guns and I’m fortunate enough to own all the finest domestic and foreign, but they have their place. It’s just a different game is all.

Really like that they're doing a steel frame, don't really love their implementation of it. No real place in USPSA for this gun, either. You'd have to shoot open division and get steamrolled by actual open guns.

Yeah these guns are basically just backyard and range “shredders”. They aren’t legal for anything except Open. That goes for all these comped guns. That being said, the comp is easily removed. S&W even includes a thread protector.

It will, however fit The Box for IDPA "Carry Optic" which now allows compensators.

I hear you. Never said it was pretty.

It will be the best shooting S&W pistol since the old PC closed and likely faster and flatter than most of those. As I said above, classy pistols have their place. I love them as much as the next guy.

Jim, I completely forgot they changed that. Heard it a short while back, but wasn’t thinking.

It will definitely fit the box.

I am a big fan of the Metal Competitor model. Makes a really good Steel Challenge gun.
This one is kinda out there… but knowing the improvements S&W has made lately in the M&Ps (specifically, the triggers) I imagine it shoots a lot better than it looks.

I had a Competitor for a short time. It shot decent, but the steel frame and metal trigger alone are huge improvements.

Did some shooting with this yesterday. It’s a very flat shooting pistol, as I expected. Very easy to shoot quickly and accurately.

By far, the best shooting M&P I’ve ever experienced, which is no surprise. Great gun

Not really, but it would make a great house-gun.

Once you understand what flat shooting means in the competition world, you might agree. As for home defense pistols, I’m set. Thanks

Once you understand you're misusing a term that's more than a century old, you'll be better off.

I’ve also used the term in the hunting realm as well as long range target and silhouette shooting scenarios. The term has two completely different meanings.

It’s used in the competitive pistol circuit constantly and that’s not changing anytime soon. Yes, I agree it was a term to describe ballistics and trajectory long before the newer use of it.

Trying to argue with me in this forum is like trying to argue with me in this forum.

The term is the term is the term, and just because some group of people are misapplying it, doesn't change the meaning of the term. And I can guarantee you that the people who are misusing the term, first heard its correct application, and that tells you all you need to know.

But, at least we've made progress- you now recognize the term 'house gun'.

I’m not arguing. I’m just telling you what it is.

Lots of words and terms in our language have multiple definitions and meanings. Go to a competition pistol forum with this sentiment and see how far you get. They are not trying to imply a ballistics term. They are describing a muzzle that stays flat due to frame weight, slide weight, bore axis, comps, ports, etc.

But I’m done with it. Use the term the way you wish. I’ll use it both ways as I have for the past decade or more.
