pedropcolaSo dumb. Not just the ridiculous rules but that “sheriff” locked a box to the car. The box itself isn’t locked. They don’t even have to rip the box out. Just open the locked to the car box and pull the gun out. What an idiot. He didn’t even do it the correct way. “You can just lock it through the hole or just the handle”. What a genius. California, rules just to make someone feel good.

oddballThe guy in the video is full of shit.
According to CA Penal Code 25610, only handguns are required to be in a locked container, which includes a lockable trunk. Long guns can be transported out in the open, unloaded. The handgun container doesn't need to be rearward, one can have a locked container on their passenger seat. It does not legally need to be secured to an inmovable object. It does not require a trigger lock or other stupid means to disable the handgun inside the locked container. It does not legally need to be covered up. Also he does not mention- loaded mags can be stored in the container as long as they are not inserted into the gun.

Even so, we have a boni-fide CA officer of the law giving this advice, which insinuates it's the lawful way.
Lots of new vehicles don't have an inaccessible locking trunk, SUV's are wide open, maybe with the large amount of vehicle break-in's in CA they are saying you might want to lock up the gun in a locking case, strapped to a hook in the car.

Let's hope anybody legally transporting their firearm(s) doesn't get someone equally ignorant stopping them.
It is probable that I'll be making a trip
back to California at some point, as I have family who are getting up in years still there.

Ah, logic. Well said. Can you imagine how much prep it would take to go to the range with multiple pistols
